My evidence to the counterclaim is, “he becomes Batman as a way to make sure that no one else has to experience the trauma that he did as a child.” This shows that Batman doesn’t want other people to see or to experience what he’s experienced in the past because people can go psycho and they could be traumatized like Batman(Bryce Wayne). Bryce Wayne experienced an egregious childhood that affected him so much. Therefore, Batman should be considered a good character because he saves lives and helps innocent people who need the help.

Some people believe that Batman should be considered a good character because he fights crime and saves innocent people lives every day. My evidence for this is "After he sees the failures of the legal system, he becomes Batman as a way to make sure that no one else has to experience the trauma that he did as a child." This shows how batman cares about the people and wants them to be safe so that they won't have to feel like he felt when he was younger with the death of his parents. On the other hand some people believe that Batman should be considered a bad character because he uses violence to get justice and hurts people.According to the sample reading it states "He goes and aggressively hunts people who he believes do the wrong thing. He pursues them aggressively in his quest for justice." this shows how he hunts down the bad people and hurts them for doing bad things. However, this idea is not as strong as the claim that says Batman should be considered a good character.Even though he is using violence he only uses it for self defense and to take down really bad people so that they won't harm many other people around them.

Some people think batman is considered a good person since he helps people and fights for justice. On the other hand people may believe that Batman is not a good person because he is just a normal person without superpowers that isn't affected by laws because he is rich. According to the story "Bruce Wayne experienced the trauma of witnessing his parents getting shot and killed in front of him as a child. This inspires him to seek justice. In the comics, he inherits 9.2 billion dollars. He can easily have a comfortable life, and does not have to work hard." This shows that Batman is only a rich guy fighting bad people by breaking the law just because of his parent's death trauma. However this idea is not as strong as the idea of him being a bad person because even though his methods of capturing villains is very law breaking he stills does capture and turn in very dangerous people that the police can't do by themselves so they need Batman's help. This shows that the idea of Batman being a bad character cannot be considered because at the end of the day he is really helpful towards the police and defeats the strongest villains by himself or with Robin.

My claim is some people think that the narrator from the poem “Picture of Childhood,” by Yevgeny Yevtushenko should be considered a bad character for not trying to help the man being beaten up at all but just watch in amusement and making comments like it is an UFC fight.

The counterclaim is that Some people believe that the narrator of the poem “Picture of Childhood,” by Yevgeny Yevtushenko should be considered a good character for not joining in on the violence of the man being beaten up by the mob. For instance, in the poem states, "
'Come on, youngster, get in it! ' I can’t remember-how many there were, making a din, beating him up. It may have been a hundred, it may have been more, but I, just a boy, wept for shame. And if a hundred are beating somebody up, howling in a frenzy-even if for a good cause- I will never make one hundred and one! " This shows that the narrator does not want to join in to be a part of violence or problem. This counterclaim is weaker than the claim because even if the narrator was not able to do anything for the, he could have at least went outside the market to get police than just watch the fight and make comments like a judge of wrestling match. Therefore the counterclaim that narrator from the poem " Picture of Childhood" is a good character because he never joined in on the violence even if someone told him.

Some people believe that Adolf Eichmann should be considered a savage person because his actions resulted in the death of innocent lives and he didn’t want to take accountability for his actions.

On the other hand, some people may believe that Adolf Eichmann should not be considered a savage person because he has no special features to make him look savage. According to the text “All There is to Know About Adolf Eichmann'' by Leonard Cohen Stanza 1 line 5-8 it states, "DISTINGUISHING FEATURES…None. NUMBER OF FINGERS:…Ten. NUMBER OF TOES…Ten. INTELLIGENCE…Medium." This clarifies that Adolf Eichmann has no special features to make him look savage or evil. Those who argue that Adolf Eichmann should not be considered a savage person believes that in order to be savage the person will need special features. And since Adolf Eichmann doesn't have any special features, he is not savage. However, this idea is not as strong as the claim that the narrator should be considered a savage person. Yes, even though Adolf Eichmann looked just like a normal person, Adolf Eichmann still had savagery and evil inside him. Also, do not judge something based on their looks. You can only know their true selves when you talk and get to know them. Even though someone may look very innocent, they can be doing horrible things behind us. Adolf Eichmann may look like a normal human but he did such horrible actions behind the scenes. Consequently, the idea that Adolf Eichmann should not be considered a savage person can not be considered because his actions resulted in the death of innocent lives and he didn’t want to take accountability for his actions.

People will think he’s good because they overlook the bad. Others might think he is a savage person because he’s done more bad than good. Others see that Adolf Eichmann isn't a bad person because he looked and acted like an average man. For example, “All There is to Know About Adolf Eichmann” - By Leonard Cohen, Stanza 1 line 5-8 states, "DISTINGUISHING FEATURES…None. NUMBER OF FINGERS:…Ten. NUMBER OF TOES…Ten. Eichmann worked for the government and was a very high respectable man so no one expected bad from him. Also, since Adolf Eichmann was working with the government no one really questioned what he did because he had very high status. However, this idea isn't a strong claim to prove Adolf Eichmann is a good person. Yes, even though Adolf looked, talked, and walked like a normal human being that shouldn't excuse his actions. Also, Adolf had so much evidence that he killed so many people since he took part of the Holocaust. He made millions suffer, starve, die, beg, cry, and scream for help. Therefore, others thinking Adolf Eichmann is a good person shouldn't be taken into consideration because of how he has done so many terrible acts throughout his life.

In the PBS.org article it states, "Adolf Eichmann wrote that he and other low-level officers were “forced to serve as mere instruments,”. From this quote people may believe that Adolf Eichmann's actions were justified because of how he was following orders and was used by other higher ranking members of the Nazi group. For example, the text “All There is to Know About Adolf Eichmann” by Leonard Cohen Stanza 1 line 5 it states, “DISTINGUISHING FEATURES…..None” This line shows that Adolf Eichmann had the appearance of a normal person. Those that argue that Adolf Eichmann isn't savage believe a normal person like him couldn't possibly have done such horrible acts. However, this claim to too weak as it doesn't consider the fact that people have two sides to themselves. The appearance of a person doesn't completely reflect who a person is. Adolf Eichmann actually planned the death of many innocent people during the Holocaust despite his looks. He may seem to be innocent but he's actually a wolf in sheep's clothing.

My claim is : Some people believe that Adolf Eichmann should be considered savage because he organized the deaths of nearly 6 million jews during world war 2, with no mercy. The counterclaim is : However, other people might believe that Adolf Eichmann should not be considered a savage person because he was order to do theses things by his superiors. For example, the text “How the Nazi’s defense of ‘just following orders’ plays out in the mind” By PBS.org states that " Holocaust organizer Adolf Eichmann wrote that he and other low-level officers were "forced to serve as mere instruments”. This evidence makes other people think he is not savage because he was not the one who came up with the initial idea of the holocaust, and because he was just listening to his superiors. But in reality you cannot bring back those millions of lives that were taken away. Adolf Eichmann still took part in planning the deaths of millions of innocent jews and if he wanted to he could have secretly helped them or even warned them about the things that were about to happen to them. Adolf Eichmann instead just kept quiet, and followed through with the plan they had which was the Holocaust. Therefore, the counterclaim were Adolf Eichmann should not be considered a savage person is simply not valid due to his involvement in the holocaust.

Other people believe that Adolf Eichmann shouldn't be considered as a savage person because he didn't look like he could be capable of doing something as evil as being responsible for millions of deaths. He was thought to be this average man but this goes to show, anyone is capable of anything. For example, in the text it states "EYES:……………………………………Medium
HAIR:……………………………………Medium
WEIGHT:………………………………Medium
HEIGHT:………………………………Medium
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES…None
NUMBER OF FINGERS:………..Ten
NUMBER OF TOES………………Ten
INTELLIGENCE…………………….Medium." This shows how he was shown as this average person, being comparable to anyone and didn't seem capable to be able to do much harm. However, this idea for the counterclaim is much weaker than the claim that Adolf Eichmann should be considered a savage person. Although, he is sought to be this average man, he was still able to be responsible for millions of lives. He is compared to unrealistic things but ends up being an average man showing anyone is capable of anything.

My claim is Mr. Summer from “The Lottery” by Shirley Jackson is considered a bad person because he is responsible for the lottery and has the power to stop it, but instead watch and let countless people die. Although people see Mr. Summer as a bad person, but others may see him doing the right thing because in their society, the doing of the lottery could be a way to prevent overpopulation or other disasters. For instance, " ""All right, folks, "Mr. Summers said. "Let's finish quickly.""" This shows that Mr. Summer wanted to hurry this process, so everyone can continue their normal lives again, which can also indicate that its normal for them to do the lottery and kill the person thats chosen from it. However this idea is not as strong as the claim because evidence in "The Lottery" mainly states that Mr. Summer is a bad person. Not helping the victim and letting them die over some lottery game.

Some people may read “The Lottery” by Shirley Jackson for the first and come up with the claim that Mr. Summers is a nice and loving person because he has a bad family yet he still helps out the village. ““All right, folks,” Mr. Summers said. “Let’s finish quickly.”” from line 73. This quote also supports the belief that Mr. Summers is a good man. Also according to the quote people may believe that Mr. Summers is a good person because he doesn’t want to dwell on someone getting stones but rather wants to finish it quickly. However a counter to this would statement be the fact that Mr. Summers wants to finish quickly because he doesn’t want people to think that he enjoys seeing people suffer. After reading the text “The Lottery” multiple times, you can also come up with the inference that Mr. Summers wants to finish someone quickly, because he wants to stone the ‘winner’ and quickly leave before someone questions him. In conclusion, the claim that Mr. Summers is a good person is out written due to the various reasonings that someone can come up with that involving Mr. Summers being an wicked character

Despite this people still believe the narrator from “Picture of Childhood” is a bad person due to his past actions. Due to the beginning of the story where hes seen to be excited and running towards a fight exclaiming he doesn’t want to miss and other don’t either. Not to mention in the poem it also says “They beat him up with relish. With ingenuity. Juicy. I saw how skillfully and precisely”. He compared the two, even making comments on how skillful and precise the hits were. People believe hes a bad person for going to see the fight, not helping and even commenting during the fight. However it doesn’t change the fact although he made bad actions he still realized he was in the wrong and became shameful when witnessing how more gruesome the fight gotten. He even commented saying “if a hundred are beating somebody up, howling in a frenzy-even if for a good cause- I will never make one hundred and one!”

Some might say the narrator from “pictures of Childhood” is good as he didn’t join in the fight and changed his POV, but that doesn’t exclude him, just because he changed his mind on the last second doesn’t all of a sudden redeem him or puts him in some good level in morality or anything else, he is still as accountable as everyone else who ran to see the show, this can be proven when the author writes in lines 1-4 “Elbowing our way, we run. Someone is being beaten up in the market. You wouldn’t want to miss it! We pick up speed, racing to the uproar,” this shows how they were excited to see the fight, they are apart of the problem, not an outlier, not the solution and as a result they are a problem, some might say that he is a good person and should be completely excused as he didn’t join in, in lines 40-45 the author writes “It may have been a hundred, it may have been more, but I, just a boy, wept for shame. And if a hundred are beating somebody up, howling in a frenzy-even if for a good cause- I will never make one hundred and one!” In some people’s eyes this redeems him and makes him a good person as he decides not to join the fight, but this ideology is flawed as he never had the right intention and only changed his mind last second, he might not be the worst person, he might be better than the other savages, he might not be savage, but that doesn’t all of a sudden make him good either, he still lies in the bad side of things, he is part of the problem and was apart of the mob

Ms.Hutchinson should not be considered a civilized character because she encouraged and engaged in a lottery that ends in the death of people in her own town that she knows and continues to justify it by calling it a ritual. On the other hand others believe that Ms.Hutchinson should be considered a civilized character because she is being brainwashed and influenced by her town to believe that what she participated in was the right thing to do. For Example the text “The Lottery” by Shirley Jackson states “The people of the village began to gather in the square, between the post office and the bank, around ten o’clock;...the whole lottery took only about two hours, so it could begin at ten o’clock in the morning and still be through in time to allow the villagers to get home for noon dinner. The children assembled first, of course...Although the villagers had forgotten the ritual and lost the original black box, they still remembered to use stones. The pile of stones the boys had made earlier was ready”. This demonstrates how she has been participating in the lottery since she was young so she has come to believe that it is ok to kill someone as a tradition. People believe this because when you grow up doing a ritual or a tradition from your childhood it becomes a custom to continue to do it and not see anything wrong with it because everyone else around you participates as well, in this case her whole town took a chance showing how nothing was wrong with it.

The narrator is a good character because he did not interact and join the fight where the man was being beaten up, instead, he just felt bad for the man while he chose not to interfere with the fight. On the other hand, other people may believe the narrator, Yevgeny Yevtushenko is a bad character because he is selfish as he did not involve himself in the fight to help the man stop getting hurt, he just watched the fight happen. According to the poem “The Pictures of Childhood” by Yevgeny Yevtushenko Stanza 2 lines 1-6, it states that, “And stood stock-still./In our little hearts something tightened,/when we saw how the ring of sheepskin coats,/fur coats, hooded coats, was contracting,/how he stood up near the green vegetable stall/with his head pulled into his shoulders from the hail/of jabs, kicks, spitting, slaps in the face.” This clarifies that the narrator could be a selfish person as he did not help the man who was getting hurt, he just stood shocked. Those who argue that the narrator in this poem who experienced the fight is a bad character believe that it is wrong to just stare at something terrible happening even if you are not causing the horrible actions, it is not something a “good” person would do. However, this idea is not as strong as the claim that the narrator should be considered a good character. Yes, even though the narrator wasn’t helping the victim out, the narrator still had the mindset of a civilized person to not listen to the others who had told him to come and hit the man too. Also, the narrator was just a child so it can be that he didn’t know how to stand up for the man as hundreds were hurting him and he could have been scared, he wrote his childhood experience from this fight as a man right now. He just wanted to show that he is a person who doesn’t follow other’s negative actions, which is what a good character would only do. It was already honorable that Yevtushenko was staying out of all the violence as a civilized child, it is much better than the savage adults hurting the man. Consequently, the idea that the narrator, Yevgeny Yevtushenko is a bad character can not be considered, because he did well in not becoming violent towards the victim he saw during the fight and is a good character.

According to the text it states, “"You wouldn’t want to miss it! We pick up speed, racing to the uproar, scooping up water in our felt boots and forgetting to wipe our sniffles." This quote shows how the narrator was trying to persuade and influence people to watch the fight and get hurt instead of helping. This shows how this narrator may conduct two arguments on whether if he is civilized but with a bad history or he must be savage. The part is that the narrator is a good person because he hasn't joined the fight and hasn't conducted any intentions to join and hurt a person.

My claim is: “Some people think that the narrator from “Picture of Childhood,” by Yevgeny Yevtushenko is a good character for not involving himself with the gang's cruel, violent, inhumane actions.”
The counterclaim is: Other people think the narrator from “Picture of Childhood,” by Yevgeny Yevtushenko is a bad character because of the way he pushed the people at the beginning of the story to watch the man get beat up. In the text “Picture of Childhood,” by Yevgeny Yevtushenko it states “Elbowing our way, we run. Someone is being beaten up in the market. You wouldn’t want to miss it!” Some people look at these lines and say that the narrator is a bad character because it shows mob mentality. This shows mob mentality because he followed people who were violent. Him and his friends pushed through the crowd not caring who he hurt to try and watch the brutal beating. He knew what the mob was doing was wrong and that it should be stopped but he didn’t do anything to stop the beating. However this counterclaim is weaker than the claim that states the narrator is a good character. Even though the narrator pushed the people at the beginning to watch a man get beat brutally and didn’t even help the man, we have to remember the narrator was a little kid at the time. He was probably scared watching all that violence. Think about it. How will a small child stop 100 men from beating on 1 other person. At least he was being civilized to turn down the mob boss request to come and join the beating. The narrator wrote this childhood experience as a man and wanted to show that he will not let others pressure him into doing bad things. This is something a good character would do. Therefore the counterclaim that the narrator from “Picture of Childhood” is not a good character is not reasonable because he didn’t follow the mob and did not inflict harm on the victim even when someone told him to.

They believe this because she was opposing the Lottery prize. Anyways, this isn't enough evidence to prove that she is a civilized character because she showed many traits that a uncivilized person would do. She was opposing the prize just for herself, she never opposed it before the raffles began. It states, " Suddenly. Tessie Hutchinson shouted to Mr. Summers. "You didn't give him time enough to take any paper he wanted. I saw you. It wasn't fair!" "Be a good sport, Tessie." Mrs. Delacroix called, and Mrs. Graves said, "All of us took the same chance."

I think Mr.Summers shouldn't be considered a good character because he hosted a lottery that was the reason of many killings and people getting injured. Others might say that he is just a normal person hosting a lottery. He is allowing people to get killed, which makes him a bad character. A girl named Tessie "won" the lottery and she claimed "it wasn't fair" in the text and I agree with her. People plummet you with rocks when you "win". You are putting your life on the line and risking it because some "lottery" said so? That's a crazy excuse for being murdered. This isn't a lottery where you earn and gamble money. You are gambling your life. Mr.Summers is evil. Therefore, Mr.Summers shouldn't be considered a good person.

As an example, one of the family members of a superhero dies, the superhero will get mad and seek for justice. For example on slide five, it states “Bruce Wayne experienced the trauma of witnessing his parents getting shot and killed in front of him as a child. This inspires him to seek justice.” The evidence i provided means most heroes or villains have a reason on why they seek for justice.

On the other hand, some people think that Batman is actually a bad character because he does justice by his own hand thinking that everything he does is correct, when he's just competing against violence with more violence. In the text, “Batman and the Quest for Justice”, by Mr. Skolnick, it states, “He goes and he aggressively hunts people who he believes do the wrong thing. He pursues them aggressively in his quest for justice.” This clearly shows how Batman can be considered a bad character, since he obtains justice through violence and not by peaceful methods, causing the fights to end in a greater disaster than in the beginning. However, this is not a very strong argument, because Batman is a hero in which he decided to take the bad guys the way they treated others, making Batman a good character not simply by facing evil but also for being a character who decided not to let the wicked go.

Some people may claim that Adolf Eichmann should be considered a savage man due to his action resulting to the death of many Jews . However, some people believe that Adolf Eichmann shouldn’t be considered a savage man because he was a civilized man who just took orders from his boss without any questioning. In the text “who was Adolf Eichmann” it states “During World War I, Eichmann’s family moved from Germany to Linz, Austria. His pre-Nazi life was rather ordinary. He worked as a traveling salesman in Oberösterreich (Upper Austria) for an oil company but lost his job during the Great Depression.” This quote demonstrates the act of civilization where adolf eichmann was once a man who worked as a traveling salesman, which doesn’t necessarily mean he wasn't a cruel/violence person. But his job included peace towards others where he would just work traveling and sales. However, this idea isn’t as strong as the claim that Adolf Eichmann was a civilized man. Even though his past was without any contributions to violence and death, it doesn’t necessarily make him a civilized man after he lost his job. Due to his loss of job he found new ones and later on contributed to the death of many Jews where he transported the Jews into the execution camp which makes him a savage man. All together, The idea of the Adolf Eichmann being a civilized man can not be considered due to his actions of contribution to the death of many Jews .

Others may say that Mr. summers is a good person because he looks like a normal person instead of a savage person but I disagree. Yeah, he may look normal but he can be a bad person and no one would know. According to the article it states, “ mr summers is good all the time with his clean white shirt and blue jeans”. This shows that he looks like a normal person to just put on a show. What I mean by putting on a show is that he wants to act the part of being nice and innocent until he picks the lottery winner. He could stop the killing at any time but chooses not too. Therefore, this shows how mr summers is a bad person in the story “ The lottery”.

The narrator from "Picture of Childhood" by Yevgeny Yevtushenko is a good person. However many people believe otherwise. As in the beginning of the story and mid way through the story it says " they began to scream together, pounding with sticks, reins, and linchpins out of wheels. In vain he wheezed to them: 'Mates". It shows how he just was a witness, not looking for any help or helping to intervene. He also describes the fight earlier how skillfully the mob had beaten the man. As it says "They beat him up with relish. With ingenuity. Juicy.
I saw how skillfully and precisely". From how well he was describing it, it seemed like he didn't take his eyes off for a moment. Despite this it doesn't change the fact he realized his own mistakes near the end. Became shameful. And realized he was a bad person for even finding it entertaining to come and see this, if he was a bad person he would have joined in, or not have felt guilt or realized his mistakes. Its states by many context clues he's a little boy, the reason he may have not called for help is extremely obvious, no one wants to get involved with the mob.

The text "All there is to know about Adolf Eichmann states, "EYES: Medium HAIR: Medium WEIGHT: Medium
HEIGHT: Medium DISTINGUISHING FEATURES: None NUMBER OF FINGERS: Ten NUMBER OF TOES: Ten INTELLIGENCE: Medium." This piece of evidence describes how Adolf Eichmann looked and he did not have any fangs or talons, he appeared to be a very normal person. Although there is evidence that supports this arguement, this idea is weaker than the one that states that Adolf Eichmann should be considered a savage person. Just because he looks like an average person, does not mean he is incapable of conducting the mass murder of millions of Jews. Your physical features do not determine whether you are a savage or civilized person. Therefore, this claim is not valid because although he looked normal, he still was a murderer.

Many people argue that Yevgeny Yevtushenko shouldn’t be considered a good character because of his “selfish” act, but was he really selfish if he didn’t know how to approach the problem? He just chose not to interfere with the situation. According to the poem, “The Pictures of Childhood” by Yevgeny Yevtushenko Stanza 2 lines 1-6, “ it says , “ And stood stock-still. In our little hearts something tightened, when we saw how the ring of sheepskin coats, fur coats, hooded coats, was contracting, how he stood up near the green vegetable stall with his head pulled into his shoulders from the hail of jabs, kicks, spitting, slaps in the face.” This shows that the narrator was in shock. And when the narrator was in shock he felt helpless so this clarifies that he was in shock and not selfish. Many people would argue that standing and looking at a person getting beaten would be a selfish and savage move, but that doesn’t clarify why the narrator was standing there like that. The narrator was a helpless boy who didn’t know how to help the person getting beaten up. He also has the characteristics of a civilized person because when others were joining and beating up the boy Yevgeny didn’t join at all he stayed out of the problem and he didn’t hurt anyone. Briefly, The claim people argue that Yevgeny Yevtushenko is a bad character doesn’t quite add up and can not be considered, because he was in shock and he didn’t get involved with the brutal fight instead he was “weeping for shame” looking at the fight happen standing still with civilized actions.

some people may claim that Adolf Eichmann should be considered a civil person because they think he was just following orders. on the other hand we have people thinking that Adolf Eichmann was a savage man due to his actions. in the article High-ranking Nazi official Adolf Eichmann captured it states "Eichmann met with top Nazi officials at the Wannsee Conference near Berlin for the purpose of planning a “final solution of the Jewish question,” as Nazi leader Hermann Goring put it" this means he met up with people to discuss the fates of the Jews. meaning he had maybe a little bit of say in the matter he could of pointed out the wrong in the slightest yet no sign of him doing so. to finalize he didn't think twice before committing the crimes he did. which makes him a savage person although his appearance makes him look civil ordinary normal.

Mr. Summers should not be considered an evil character. The reason he shouldn't be considered evil is because the only reason he is doing the actions he's doing is because of mob mentality. He is just doing what other people do. Maybe he's just doing it so he doesn't get left out, or maybe he likes it. Either way no matter the reason, even if he's being brainwashes, he is still in the end running an event that takes the life of another person. Which can not be forgivable no matter what way you look at it. It's a cruel act.

My claim: The term savagery or savage person is used to describe an individual who inhibits ferociousness. Adolf Eichmann was a German-Austrian S.S Nazi colonel. The constant debate between many different individuals on whether or not Otto should or should not be classified as a savage person or guilty for the act of savagery. Although it can be argued, Adolf did organize the deaths and suffrage of millions of Jews within the Holocaust, therefore, making him a savage person.
My counterclaim: on the other hand some may believe that Adolf Enichmann wouldnt be considered a savage person due to the idea that he appears as an average man. In the text it states "EYES: Medium HAIR: Medium WEIGHT: Medium
HEIGHT: Medium DISTINGUISHING FEATURES: None NUMBER OF FINGERS: Ten NUMBER OF TOES: Ten INTELLIGENCE: Medium." This description gives off the impression that yes Otto appeared as a regular man. But appearance isn't a determining factor for whether or not a person is savage or not.

Many people think that batman should be considered a good character because he is always fighting for good and ever since his parents were killed he has wanted to stop every villain that has lived in Gotham City. CounterClaim: Batman is known for being rich and as Bruce Wayne but people don't know way he does fight crime and it all started when he witness the death of his parents and since he was a little boy there was nothing that he could do, and this inspired him to fight crime and he is a wealthy man that he doesn't have to work at all and he can do whatever he want with his life and is to fight for Justice.

Some people claim that the narrator in the poem “picture of childhood” is a good character because in the poem they talk about stuff that do happen in the real world, and that the narrator does not get involved in violence or any type of drama. However, on the other hand, some people think that the narrator is a bad person because when the guy was getting beat up, the narrator did not do anything about it. In the text, it says “someone is getting beat up in the market. You wouldn’t want to miss it.” This shows mob mentality basically. So people may use this line to show proof of the narrator not doing anything.

He does this because of his own trauma. However, some people say that Batman is a bad person, since he is a person who aggressively hurts others. In the text it states “ he goes and aggressively hunts people who he believes does bad things.” People with this claim may use this as evidence to prove that he is a bad person

Even with all of this evidence, people still believe that Yevgeny Yevtushenko is a bad person because he stood by the scene . The reason they think this is stated in “Picture of Childhood”, “Elbowing our way, we run. Someone is being beaten up in the market. You wouldn’t want to miss it! We pick up speed, racing to the uproar, scooping up water in our felt boots and forgetting to wipe our sniffles.” Many people were wanting to see what was going on instead of helping the man and Yevtushenko was one of them. However, this claim does not make sense considering the fact that he was just a boy. A big responsibility should not be shifted to a person young as he was at that time. If anything, Yevgeny Yevtushenko declined the demand of the person asking him to join. It shows he was terrified, and honestly any child would normally have this type of reaction. Therefore, Yevgeny is a good person no matter what other claims say otherwise.

On the other hand, some people believe that the narrator should be considered as a bad character.

Some proponents may argue that Mr. Summer is a good person because he does not engage in stoning another innocent person. In the story it states that “Although the villagers had forgotten the ritual and lost the original black box, they still remembered to use stones. The pile of stones the boys had made earlier was ready; there were stones on the ground with the blowing scraps of paper that had come out of the box.” This quote suggests that Mr. Summer does not get involved with the actual violence that is associated with the person chosen out of the black box. However, some critics may argue that he is in charge of the tradition and carries it out without reservation. The black box is owned by Mr. Summer, so he has prior knowledge of the events that are potentially going to take place and what will be carried out as a result. Furthermore, In the story, Mrs. Hutchinson pleads in order to exact fairness for the lottery. Mr. Summer was more concerned about carrying out the lottery and ensuring that there was enough “time” rather than stopping to understand her side of the lottery. Thus, making Mr. Summers accountable for his actions because he is carrying it out with no regard to Mrs. Hutchinson, her feelings and most importantly—her family. Although Mr. Summer is not directly involved with the violence that takes place, it is clear that his black box which is organized and created by him is used to carry out the violence which makes him as responsible and complicit as the folks that are throwing the stones.

I Think the narrator from “Picture of Childhood” should be considered a good person because he did not want to interfere in the fight and still felt bad for the man getting beaten up. Some people believe that the narrator from “Picture of Childhood” should be considered a good person. Some people also believe he should not be considered a good person. Some people believe he is a good person because he did not want to get involved in the fight and just stood there watching. Some people believe he is not a good person because he did not help and stop the fight. In stanza 2 lines 1-6 it says “And stood stock-still. In our little hearts, something tightened, when we saw how the ring of sheepskin coats, fur coats, hooded coats, was contracting, how he stood up near the green vegetable stall with his head pulled into his shoulders from the hail of jabs, kicks, spitting, slaps in the face.”This shows how people might see this as him not caring for the men getting beaten up because he was just standing there doing nothing when in reality he was shocked and scared and did not know what to do.Nevertheless, the narrator from “Picture of Childhood” is a good person for not joining in the fight and did not listen to people influencing him to join.

Jason dudnauth

Some people believe that mr summers is considered a good character because he’s a jovial normal guy just trying to do what he has to do. For example in Shirley Jackson’s “the lottery” it says “ The lottery was conducted—as were the square dances, the teen-age club, the Halloween program—by Mr. Summers, who had time and energy to devote to civic activities. He was a round-faced, jovial man and he ran the coal business, and people were sorry for him, because he had no children and his wife was a scold.” This means that mr summers is a good character because he’s just a guy hosting square dances, teen clubs, Halloween programs and the lottery. Also they may say he’s a good character because he has no children and a wife that’s scold and that mr summers is just trying to make a living with his coal business, but calling him a good character is a weak claim because he’s hosting the lottery which kills someone every year and also he just watches them kill and he doesn’t stop it showing that he has a evil side even though he’s a jovial man. Therefore, mr summers should not be considered a good character because he may seem a jovial guy but at the end he’s just evil to not stop the lottery since he’s the host.
