In doing so, he likely saved the entire Union line from collapsing, helping to turn the tide not only of the battle, but of the war itself. He was promoted to brigadier general by the end of the war, and oversaw the peaceful transfer of arms after Appomattox. He was awarded the Medal of Honor. A man so evil that even Hitler himself described the man as "the one with the iron heart". He would eventually earn the title of "the Butcher". I would want to study his psychopathy/sociopathy firsthand, as the Nuremberg trials were profoundly inconclusive in regards to determining the sanity of the tried Nazi party officials. Rare in history do we get to study evil figures firsthand; it's always after they've done their deeds and died do we get the explanation and insight.
