Feminism

Today I was searching on one of my favourite topics, feminism and I found so many people saying that feminism is wrong and no one should be a feminist. Well, I disagree. I believe in gender equality and that is what feminism stands for, even though there are a lot of misconceptions. This video shows a perfect example of what a feminist is. Manal is not just a example of feminism but of an amazing human being. She is fighting for what she believes it's right, although she is not accepted by her own people! It is actually very inspirational to see her succeed. It is very good to see, in a country where there are a lot of tabus towards gender equality, making small steps. I also watch Emma Watson's UN speech and her words "If not me, who? If not now, when?" kept flowing in my head. We should definitely fight for what we believe in, as Manal did! Hope you find it as inspirational as I did! "I call myself a feminist. Isn't that what you call someone who fights for women's rights?"- Dalai Lama.

Do you see that poor little kid on the left picture? He is was no one, we was just another innocent baby abandoned my his family which believed he was cursed. Do you see that blond young woman on the left picture? She is Anja Loven a charity worker from Denmark (spoiler alert: she is an amazing person). Anja and the little baby's lifes were joined by this simple act of love, Anja was feeding the little baby that was dying of hunger. That simple act of love changed his life forever!
Do you see the happy kid on the right picture? He is Hope. Do you remember the dying baby from before? Yes you guessed it, Hope is the little kid! Anja adopt him after they met. This makes me so happy! How a simple act of love changed someone's life forever! Remember Maya Angelou? Anja was Hope's rainbow when his sky was full of dark clouds. We maybe can't do such thing has adopting a abandoned child but with the simplest act of love we can brighten someone's day. Their story really touched me! People like Anja make me feel that, despite all the bad in the world, love and hope are stronger then we might think.
PS: Anja created an organization that helps children like Hope have a future as they well deserve!

I came across this video and so here I am. First of all, I was not shocked by the conditions of the refugee camp because I already knew they don't have much, if you can even call it basic human living. What really shocked me was the little girl. Like those Syrian boys from the other video, she always kept a smile on her face!
I am still trying to figure out why Europe is closing the doors to this people. Is it because of fear of terrorism? That is what they are running from. Or is it because they are different, because they are not European? I know it envolves a lot of politics but this is a matter of humanitarian help. We are talking about people and dreams. Why should we take away this girl's dream? What gives us the right to do so. If she got the right education she could do as much as an European citizen. She could be the doctor who would save your life. And when she said she wished she died in the war instead of living in the camp, that broke my heart! Like her there are a lot of children who wish for just an opportunity. Keep in mind that they didn't choose to live in a warzone, they chose to chase a better life. I just keep admiring this people's strength. And remember, sometimes you are a caterpillar!

A forever foreign is a citizen of the world, someone of many cultures. A forever foreign doesn't belong to just one place, his/her heart is everywhere. Curious about everything, a forever foreign needs to contact with something new, as basic as it might be. A forever foreign is eager to learn, to see, to taste, to touch. Lost in the world, lost on his/her mind. A forever foreign has stories to tell, maybe to ghosts or maybe to you. The world is a world of many worlds, a place of many people, and a forever foreign is part of this amazing world. But a forever foreign is just a human, a human with cultural intelligence. So, are you a forever foreign?

This was one of the fewest times she was heard, maybe the first one and this shows how strong can a voice be. Having a voice means freedom, and listening to someone's voice makes us even more caring and respectful. I have seen the video endless times and I always feel helpless! How strong willed must a person be survive what this girl, and others, went through? I've tried to put myself in Park's shoes but I can't imagine her pain. In North Korea there are a lot of people who want to have a voice but they hide it with fear of being silenced forever! We are lucky to have a voice and we shall use it to make others heard!

Holden and Jerome, the character and the creator, both real. Holden was Jerome's loyal companion since he, and the pages where he lives forever, took form in the 20's. But the war came and Jerome went with it but the talented young writer was clever enough to take war as a "bloody, inglorious affair". And so he fought, and so he wrote. But the war isn't everlasting and Jerome survived it, but no one really survives war. War transformed Jerome and Holden changed with him. Holden became Jerome's reflection in paper and ink. Both haunted and lost, both catchers in the rye, both once innocent and dreamful until everything shatters. Though, not everything is lost, "The experience of war gave a voice to Salinger, and therefore to Holden Caulfield", you can always find hope, you can always make the difference and you can always inspire people! That's the valueable lesson that I take from "Catcher in the Rye" and J.D. Salinger.

Today I saw this moral in Lisbon and it got me thinking. It is a bit polemic because it touches on a yet very fragile topic, unfortunately. Homosexuality. Why are this men and women still looked sideways from some parts of the society? Love is love and no one should be forbidden from loving. We are in the 21st century and equality is still something to be worried about because it doesn't fully exist. It is not just about LGBTQ community it's abput cultures and religions too. Prejudice is something present in our societies. As contraditory as it might sound the way to reach equality is by embracing the difference!

When I was coming home it was raining but I didn´t opened the umbrella. I decided that today, in this rainy day, I would walk in the rain. This, as stupid as it may sound, made me feel a sign of freedom, it was relaxing and relieving. Today I decided to see the rain in another perspective, what if I had never seen and felt rain in my life? Today, it looks like a sad day, but I'm happy.
As I'm writing this the rain is pouring and I'm listening to the marvelous melody of the rain!
