<title>One apple was randomly selected and cut in half. When the star was in the middle, it meant happiness and health for the family. The apple was then cut so that it could escape every member of the family. But if the center was in the shape of a cross, the family would face illness or death. Laura</title>

<title>Christmas EveOn December 24, Christmas Day, we start celebrating Christmas in Slovakia. In eastern and partly also in central Slovakia, this day is also called &quot;vilija&quot; or &quot;vigilija&quot;, derived from the Latin &quot;vigilia&quot;, which means the eve of the holiday. The biggest holiday of Christmas is the first Christmas holiday (December 25) - the day of Christ&#39;s birth, although history does not know exactly when he was actually born. On Christmas Day, he tends to fast, which ends with the rising of the first star. Patrik</title>

During this period called Advent, which carries within us the message of anticipation of the arrival of little Santa Claus, people go to church, buy or prepare gifts for their loved ones, decorate their homes with decorations. The Advent wreath has its irreplaceable place, often from Chechnya, which is decorated with four candles corresponding to the number of Advent Sundays. <title>December 25 is traditional and probably does not represent the true historical date of Jesus Christ&#39;s birth. December 25 is, for the first time, a religious holiday documented in the Philocal Calendar of 354, which drew from Roman sources (&quot;Depositio Martyrum&quot;) of 336. [7] The origin of this date is disputed. There is often a possible connection with the Roman feast of the solar deity, the so-called Dies Natalis Solis Invicti - the Feast of the Birth of the Invincible Sun - which was also celebrated on December 25 and overlapped with the traditional date of the winter solstice. . Some early Christian authors associated the birth of Christ with the feast of the rebirth of the sun. Sandra</title>

<title>Saint Lucia Day (December 13)On St. Lucia&#39;s Day, white-clad girls go around the houses to wipe out evil spirits with their feathers. Legend has it that St. Lucia was a Christian who was forced to marry a pagan. He fell in love with her beautiful eyes, so she burned them and sent them to him. She was considered one of the biggest witches. Sandra</title>

<title>May Day is a Slovak custom for the month of love. At that time, young people build May trees for girls, decorated with colored ribbons, and thus show their love and boys respect. they are built in the middle of the square, and the higher they are, the better. Today, we can still see this tradition all over Slovakia.Closer to the Christmas period is St. Nicholas. The children have to get under their boots the night before December 6, and put them in front of the door so that Mikuláš can give them a gift there, as he deserves. If they obeyed, you would get chocolate and oranges, but if they were disobedient, so would coal and potatoes. viki m</title>

<title>Feast of St. Mikuláš is especially popular with children, who on this day are looking forward to giving them sweets and various trifles. It is customary to clean your shoes, put them in the arch in the evening and find a nice surprise in the morning.Customs relating to the day of St. Mikuláš (December 6) gradually developed to the form that has survived to this day.Archaic origins also have the habit of patrolling three masked men. The first was a goat led by a second man surrounded by straw. The third man wore a mannequin in his trousers with his boots sewn on his back. When the man turned, the female manikin &quot;kicked&quot; passers-by with boots.Later, the custom of a procession of St. Nicholas with an angel and a devil, who distributed gifts and &quot;devil&#39;s&quot; rewards, became established throughout Slovakia. viki m</title>

<title>Carnival - the happiest customs of the year originate in the pre-Christian period and belong to the customs associated with the turn of winter and spring. The Fascists precede the Easter Lent (beginning at the Three Kings and ending at Ash Wednesday). In the past as well as today, they are a period of feasting, culminating in carnival entertainment with masks expressing the &quot;world upside down&quot;, in which social barriers have been erased. The most archaic carnival masks are considered to be masks depicting various animals. The most common was the mask of a turona (hike or bull man), a goat, a bear and a horse. The carnivores culminate in the last week before the Easter fast, during which masked retinue walks around the village singing and doing all sorts of tricks. The symbol of the end of the carnival is the burial of the bass, during which a real funeral is parodied.Source: Dajama. viki m</title>

<title>St. Lucia&#39;s Day is one of the most mysterious customs and belongs to the series of so-called the days before Christmas.Contrary to the Christian tradition, Lucia (December 13) acted as the greatest witch in folk superstitions. People believed that on this day they could see strigs.Various love prophecies were also popular. According to the most famous of them, the girls prepared thirteen tickets for Lucia. They wrote various male names on twelve pieces of paper, and the thirteenth remained blank. The tickets were twisted and burned one by one over the following days. They burned the penultimate ticket on Christmas morning, and opened the remaining ticket in the evening. The name written on it was to be the name of the future husband. The girl, who was the last to leave a blank ticket, was not yet to be released the following year. viki m</title>

We fast during Christmas Day. It ends with the rising of the first star into the sky. We believe that if we strictly observe fasting, we will notice a golden pig in the sky. We are preparing Christmas Eve dinner throughout Christmas Day. Sandra</title>

<title>The custom, widespread throughout Slovakia, takes place in the villages and towns on the last day of the Easter holidays - Easter Monday. The customs of bathing, dressing and fucking girls and women are associated with Easter Monday. The traditional reward for a gallows or a bathing suit is a decorated egg called Easter egg as a symbol of life. The oldest way of decorating eggs was dyeing in various plant decoctions, later various techniques were developed such as. batik - applying wax to the eggs with a needle and subsequent coloring, while the areas covered with wax remained uncolored. In some areas of Slovakia, it was customary to &quot;repay&quot; young people for soup on Tuesday after Easter. Girls and women had the right to dress men, which was associated with a cheerful response.Source: Dajama viki m</title>

<title>One of the most archaic customs that has survived to this day. It takes place at the end of winter and expresses the desire of people to end the cold weather and summon the warm rays of the sun. This custom has its roots in the pre-Christian period, when people believed that nature was controlled by supernatural forces whose actions could be influenced. They also attributed the alternation of the seasons to these forces.Morena symbolized winter, so if people wanted spring to come, they had to kill it, drown it in a stream, or burn it. It took the form of a straw mannequin dressed in women&#39;s clothes, worn by young girls singing to the creek. They stripped her by the shore, set her on fire and threw her into the waters of the rippling river. The most common date for taking Morena is Death Sunday (Lent Sunday two weeks before Easter). In some regions, the bachelors also bring out Deda, a straw mannequin in the form of an old man.Source: Dajama viki m </title>

<title>AdventIn Slovakia, we are preparing for Christmas, the feast of the birth of Jesus Christ, four weeks in advance. During this period called Advent, which carries within us the message of expectation of the arrival of little Santa Claus, people go to church, buy or prepare gifts for their loved ones, decorate their homes with decorations. The Advent wreath has its irreplaceable place, often from Chechnya, which is decorated with four candles corresponding to the number of Advent Sundays. It enhances the Christmas atmosphere before Christmas, whether it is placed in the apartment on the table or hung on the door. It is a sign of hope and a tribute to the coming. The Advent calendar is very popular with children, which brings joy and sparkles in their eyes every day from December 1, when they open the first window and find some goodies in it. viki m</title>

<title>The feast of St. Nicholas always falls on December 6. This feast is especially loved by children. The good and obedient will receive sweets from Mikuláš. On the eve of St. Nicholas, the boots need to be cleaned and placed on the window sill so that he can bring them sweets overnight when they sleep. However, if the children did not obey, they were threatened with boots full of black coal. Nicholas has a long white chin and presents a red coat and gifts along with an angel and a devil. In schools, students write a Santa Poem on the board to protect them from bad grades and exams in front of the board. Sandra</title>

<title>In Slovakia, we are preparing for Christmas, the feast of the birth of Jesus Christ, four weeks in advance. During the Advent period, which carries the message of the expectations of little Nicholas, people go to church, buy or give gifts to their loved ones, decorate their homes with decorations. The Advent wreath, often from Chechnya, has its irreplaceable place, which is decorated with four candles corresponding to the number of Advent Sundays. The pre-Christmas atmosphere will be enhanced, whether it is laid in the apartment on the table or hung on the door. It is a sign of hope and will definitely come. The Advent calendar is very popular with children, which brings them joy and sparkles in their eyes every day from December 1, when they open the first window and some goodies come in it. <title>December is another interesting day in the run-up to Christmas. St. Lucia&#39;s Day belongs to a series of so-called pre-Christmas days. They lasted from Katarína (November 25) to Tomáš (December 21). They also tied to Ondrej (November 30), Barbora (December 4), Mikuláš (December 6) and Lucia (December 13). People believed that they could see strigs on this day. According to the most famous love prophecy, the girls prepared thirteen tickets for Lucia. They wrote various male names on twelve of them, leaving the last thirteen blank. The leaves were twisted and gradually destroyed (burned) one by one in the following days. They burned the penultimate ticket on Christmas morning, the last one in the evening. The name written on it was to be the name of the future husband. If the last ticket was left blank, the girl wouldn&#39;t have to leave next year. Sandra</title>

<title>What would it be like on Christmas Eve without the Christmas wafers? They must not be missing in any holiday menu, but in different parts of Slovakia they are consumed differently. Some people like honey wafers, someone sprinkles them with nuts, but they taste very good and clean, without filling. In the past, people saw revenge as a symbol of peace and joy. Although we can buy them in various supermarkets today, this was not the case in the past. The wafers were made at home and in some regions the tradition of making Christmas wafers is still preserved. Sandra</title>

<title>SlovenčinaAngličtinaThe magical power was attributed to the Christmas pastry. On Christmas Day, before dawn, the housewives baked Christmas cookies. According to the usual tradition, the ceremonial pastry had to be ready before sunrise and, more importantly, the housewives had to have the pastry ready as a gift for the carolers. After mixing the dough for Christmas pastries and bread, the housekeeper wiped her hands on the fruit trees to give birth well next year.
