Out of everything, quarter 4 was not my best quarter. It wasn't your fault, it was just mainly difficulties on my end. During this unit I connected the book to our current world and it opened my eyes of how morals, beliefs and behavior affect every aspect of a society as well as the nature of humankind. We followed a specific character throughout the journey and put ourselves in our characters mindset throughout the story which truly helped to show their thought process and why they behaved the way they did and how their society crumbled without rules and a set foundation of a community and system. Lord of the flies related heavily to our world presently because despite having more structure than seen on the island with the boys, we are horrifically similar to the analogy of being a group of young children without parents to guide us and tell us what is right and wrong. Without a force or higher being that decides what is ethical and just, we struggle to balance the good and evil and must continue to choose what we stand for and create the world that we desire. The biggest challenge and obstacle for me in the fourth quarter was writing my own epic poem. Reading the Odyssey, notating it and observing the way a story from so long ago was crafting was an incredibly enlightening experience. It was interesting to observe the behaviors of the different characters and how their society functioned. However, it was challenging for me to incorporate epic qualities and write a hero's journey where the character faces many obstacles and learns an important and useful lesson and shows character development and growth. I struggled to figure out how to capture what is necessary to create a narrative that helped to enlighten others much like how the Odyssey did to me.
