When beekeeping first came to life the beekeepers would destroy the whole colony but in 1851 Lorenzo Langstroth discovered that in between wax combs there is a 6mm space where the bees live. With that knowledge beekeepers don’t have to destroy the whole hive anymore but save it and take out the sections in separated by the living space. Referring back to the book beekeeping was possibly the destruction of the bees which started the whole new world, to help that they pollinated the plants with a paint like material since the had become extinct.

There is a wide range of industry for honey. In fact if you eat local honey you can get rid of your allergies. In the 1990s the government estimated that 3 million colonies of all different types of bees were being maintained in the US. There is about 125,000 people who have and maintain one or more bee hives but 75% of the harvest is maintained by only 600 beekeepers. From one colony you can get about 65 pounds of honey and for every ton of honey 20-40 pounds of beeswax. In the mid-1990s the world totaled about 1.2 million metric tons of honey. In the book honey is very precious and worth a lot because of the lack of it. Honey is especially high economic wise with not much of it left.

There are many ways of making and getting honey, like from the honey and or from some plants. The most common way is the honeybee and its cousins. Bee’s make honey in their honey sacs with stuff in flowers called nectar. They use it to feed their larvae and as a substance for winter. The honey is also made up of fructose, water, and glucose. Surprisingly, all honey is different. They are all made with different proportions of the ingredients, also the flavor and color can depend on the flower, age, and even the type of bee. The lighter the honey color the more the quality and price. Reference to the book is that honey was worth a lot because of the lack of bees which produced the honey, overall honey can not be made if there is nothing

Pollination is the transfer of pollen for the stamen to the stigma. There are two types of pollination, self-pollination and cross-pollination. In the process of self-pollination pollen is transferred from the stamen to the stigma of the same flower, while cross pollination is the transfer of pollen from one flower to another of the same plant or one flower to a flower of a different plant of the same species. Cross-pollinating is said to be better because it produces more varied offspring, better seed, and more seeds. Wind is good for cross-pollinating because it scatters everywhere but animals such as bees and bats are better for spreading pollen to the same species because of their instincts. This relates to the book because pollination is changed because there are no more bees left instead the paint things onto plants to make them grow.
