After writing them down and recalling a couple of times, only then I was able to remember them better. I feel happy and excited to learn more from this course. This is because I would like to bond with my patients by simply asking, “Xianzai ni zenmeyang?” (How do you feel now?) or even telling them “Ni xiuxi xiuxi ba” (You’d better have rest).

How did you learn and apply the skill of decision making in your EP journey?
It was my dream to learn Mandarin language. I used to learn this language when I was in a kindergarten. After going to school, I didn’t have a chance to take up an extra language as I had a tight schedule. Not only it was my dream, I want to build a good rapport with my Chinese patients and break the language barrier.

How did you manage your time throughout this EP journey?
I am grateful to the latest technology, Coursera has synced to my google calender. It will notify me at every 8.00pm to start learning. I will always spend 2 hours a day to recall, jot down and practice my pronunciation.

Your plan for next week (Week 4)
Next week, I am going to learn about days, hobbies and polite expressions.

Nur Fathin Khairiyah Binti Abdul Malek, A173650, 4/8/22

2. Your progress so far

I successfully moved to a higher level where I did different styles of cutting hair. My supervisor taught me the V style and U style where both require different techniques. Dividing the sections were the basic techniques that can determine whether the styles could be perfectly made or not. I also learned to use flat iron to straighten the hair and practise it on my sister's head. It was hard but satisfying to have the straight hair come from curly hair. This step was crucial in doing hair rebonding and relaxing. I also had the opportunity to wash a customer’s hair and learn more techniques where they call “ always 3”! They were always three steps in scratching the scalp and massaging all over the head until the shoulder. It was a real adventure playing with the heads and hair!

3. Your feelings and thoughts

I was very satisfied with what I have been learning all these weeks. I felt happy every time I cut the hair into different shapes ans styles also learning new techniques.

4. How did you learn and apply the skill of decision making in your EP journey?

In hairdressing classes, every step you are taking needs decision making. Therefore, I know it is very important to know how your decision will affect the customer's hair or their feelings. It is also applicable in our life, deciding on something would make not only a huge difference but a small little change would also affect our life. Thus I believe that decisions should be made wisely in any circumstances.

5. How did you manage your time throughout this EP journey?

I have classes every 4 days a week from Monday toFriday, 9am until 2pm. So after classes I usually have family time. I have no issue in time management during my EP journey since I have set a fix schedule with my supervisor. During classes, we have planned a proper learning points to ensure I would cover all the course material when I finished my EP later.

6. Your plan for next week (Week 4)

My plan next week is to practise more on haircut techniques that I have learned and also to learn add on material in my course which is Manicure and Pedicure and Paraffin techniques.

At RPEC, horses were fed 5 times in a day which were at 6AM, 10AM, 2PM, 5PM and 10PM. Usually, they will be fed with hard pellet at 6AM, 2PM and 10PM. While at 10AM and 5PM, the horses will be fed with hay. I also learned that we must never feed the horses directly before or after the horses doing some exercise as it can causes colic.

Your feelings and thoughts

As usual, the job is very exhausting but I feel happy in the same time.

Irdina Sophea Binti Mahazir
A168009
7/8/2022

Your progress so far
On week 3, I learned about the days of the week, tv programs, and hobbies on coursera.com. This week was a bit challenging for me because these are the words I have not been exposed to before compared to the previous weeks. Eventhough I am not fluent, I was at least familiar with introduction phrases and numbers in Mandarin that I learned in the past two weeks. However, this week’s topics were completely new to me. This was shown in my results when I failed one of the quizzes given. I got 37%, and the passing mark is above 60%. Before doing my second attempt, I made some notes to help me remember the words I have learned in the lecture. Thankfully I passed on the second attempt. On top of learning on the coursera website, I also watched Youtube videos to help me remember the things I have learned in the previous weeks. Some of my favourite channels are Khalil Channel, Grace Mandarin Chinese, and Slow and Clear Chinese.

Your feelings and thoughts
When I got 37% on the quiz, I was super down and demotivated. However, I did not give up and revised many times using the notes that I have made to help me remember the words and phrases. I got 75% on my second attemot and eventhough it wasn’t a full mark, I was still proud of my self because I know how much effort I have put into it.

How did you learn and apply the skill of decision making in your EP journey?
In this EP journey, I have learn to prioritise things in order to make my decision. For example, prioritising studying instead of sleeping or doing something else to get better results.

How did you manage your time throughout this EP journey?
At first, it was quite hard returning back to learning everyday after the holiday. However, I slowly learned to manage my time better by planning my schedule and setting an alarm to attend my classes. The duolingo app that I use to revise is also useful because it sends out a notification when I have not opened the app for that day.

Your plan for next week
For next week, I am planning to learn some illness to help me talk to patients better, as well as nail the tones in Mandarin. I also plan to teach my family some words that I have learned. From what I have read, teaching other people makes you remember more for yourself.

Shaza Aina Bt Kamarulzaman (A173543), 7/8/2022

Your progress so far
I have been learning about power chords which consists of two notes that are five steps apart. The basic idea is you only need to learn one chord shape and that one shape can move around the fingerboard to make other chords. There are only 3 notes where guitarists often play these types of chords with the root note on the low E string and the A string. For this example, we’ll use the low E string. With your 1st finger, hold down the root note, and then follow this with your 3rd and 4th finger to hold down the other two notes. This is an F power chord because the root note is on the first fret of the low E string. Power chords are also moveable where you take the above chord shape and move it to the 5th fret, it will become an A power chord because the 5th fret of the low E string is an A note. Other than that, palm muting is important so that the other strings don’t ring out when you are strumming because if they do, your chord progression will end up sounding way too loud and garbled.

Your feelings and thoughts
This week’s task isn’t as hard and I am very proud to be able to achieve them easily.

How did you learn and apply the skill of decision making in your EP journey?
I have decided to take the course from Udemy, particularly from Erich Andreas who has been playing and teaching guitar for nearly 30 years. Not only that, his course consists of completed level of beginner to intermediate to advance. Hence, I can pick and choose which specific skills from electric guitar I want to learn and master.

How did you manage your time throughout this EP journey?
For this month, since I am at home, I do get lazy here and there hence I put my schedule to learn at 11 am for about 1.5-2 hours and then continue the course again in the evening at 6pm to 730 pm. Sometimes I would continue to learn again at around 9pm. To manage my time well, I made sure that a reminder alarm is set everyday so that I wont forget. Next, I also keep track by writing down my progression in a notebook to motivate myself so that I follow the schedule well.

Your plan for next week ( week 4)
I am planning to just revise back everything I have learnt and play some songs to put everything I have learnt into practice.

My 3rd Week of Horse Riding

ROSANNE SURAYA BINTI ASRAFF ANDREW
A173501
7/8/2022

Your progress so far

This week, I am learning something different than horse riding, that is horse care which includes stable management and horse bath. There are many new things that I have gained an understanding of, such as sawdust being used in stables as bedding. Every day, the sawdust is cleaned from any feces and urine. A pitchfork is used to separate them. This is my very first time using one and it was kind of awkward at first. Usually, the time limit to mark up a box will be 30 minutes as you have to finish marking up before letting the horse rest in their own boxes. After separating the feces and urine, you will then need to empty the middle of the box by pushing all the sawdust to the edges. Then, let the box dry while you change the water for the horses to drink. After some stable cleaning, I got the chance to bathe 2 horses. I need to change the bridle to a head collar (that is Proteus again in the picture) before bathing the horses and it was pleasing to see the horses enjoy a bath after being ridden. After a bath, I brought Proteus to his box to rest and I felt happy with myself as I can easily handle and ask for cooperation from him.

Your feelings and thoughts

It was definitely no easy work marking up the boxes as it was 100 times bigger than my cat's little box. But, I felt a sense of contentment after being able to do something new and getting good feedback and teachings although it is my first time. Being able to handle a horse professionally definitely gave me a sense of confidence as I am now able to read their body language and act accordingly.

How did you learn and apply the skill of decision-making in your EP journey?

Horse riding has definitely taught me how to think quickly and make decisions quicker. When I am riding a horse, I have to always be alert to the horse's movement and behaviors and act accordingly to correct them. An example would be when I am asking the horse to trot that is by squeezing my legs against his body and by giving a gentle kick, so the horse has to trot and if I sense that he is getting slower (usually due to the horse not being focused), I then need to correct him by asking him to trot again by giving the cues. This is important because trotting is when the mind of the horse is engaged at a steady pace and avoids any distractions. Not only riding, but when I am leading a horse, it is important to make sure he is not distracted by suddenly wanting to eat grass, so I have to be attentive and make decisions to correct him. Being alert and having quick decision-making skills are key to having a pleasant and safe horse riding experience.

How did you manage your time throughout this EP journey?

Usually, I will have my classes in the morning and I will also do some volunteering work with my brother during the weekends or after classes. I also do some self-directed learning about horse breeds, body language, points of a horse, and many more. It is a joy to ask my coach any question that I have encountered when studying. So far, I have managed my time smoothly as usually classes and volunteering work starts early morning and I will finish around noon, then I can help my mother run errands and send my brother to school after my horse riding classes. Then, I will do my self-study at night.

Your plan for next week (Week 4)

My plan for next week would be to continue building my stamina and strength at the gym. Improving my rising trot consistency. Study more on horse care and stable management, and also on how to tack up a horse and how to put on a head collar professionally.

I really can’t wait to be able to utilize oftenly the knowledge that I have gain during this EP period and hopefully will remain eager to learn more so that I can really master Mandarin.

How did you learn and apply the skill of decision making in your EP journey?
The skill of decision making in my EP journey is needed most when I am answering quizzes.

Piraveenraj Sundar

A173426

7 August 2022

2. Your progress so far.

During my 1st week and 2nd week, I was still unable to read and pronounce the Korean alphabets without referring to my notes but now, I am slowly getting used to the words and started to memorise and use it without referring. In this week, the course content was quite a lot which includes asking about members in a family, the korean numbers, living and non-living things and its counting units (명&개). It took a lot of effort to remember the newly learned words. Not only that, I have also learned about how to ask about a special occasion, time, date and days. I can say at this point of my elective posting journey, I am doing quite well in understanding how Korean language is used and its correct grammar to create a complete sentence.

3. Your feelings and thoughts.

I feel so saturated with the new knowledge that i have learned so far. Everything is completely new, plus it is not commonly used in our Malaysia to communicate. So it is a little bit tough to digest and remember the new terms that I have learned so far. However, I am happy that I could learn this new language although it is tough because I have always wanted to travel various countries in the world. This knowledge will make me easy to communicate with the locals and learn their culture by connecting myself with their lifestyle.

4. How did you learn and apply the skill of decision making in EP journey?

I am aware that learning something new is not an easy task especially something that we have no any prior exposure to it. It needs a lot of patience and perseverance. Same goes for learning Korean language as a person who speaks Tamil as his native language. Yet, I have put on all my skills of decision making to choose such course to improve myself to be a better human who can connect myself with people from various backgrounds and natives. Apart from it, in this course, at the end of each week, there will be some quizzes to check on the understanding while learning this language. Sometimes the answers will be really confusing as the Korean pronunciations are very similar to each other. There, we need to apply a good skills of decision making in order to get the correct answer and pass the quiz.

5. How did you manage your time throughout this EP journey?

I have planned about my time to be segregated properly at the very beginning of this posting. My course is completely online so I am aware that I will have a lot of distractions since I am doing it from home. So, I have planned to spend a minimum of 2 hours each day throughout this one month to attain maximum input from this course. Whenever I have some urgent, unavoidable things to do, I will make sure to replace my learning time the next day so that it does effect my learning experience. I am totally happy with my time management in this posting and i really wish to continue to do the same for the other postings in future.

6. Your plan for next week.

My plan for next week is quite hectic. Since next week will be the last week of this posting, I have to finish all the content and works offered in the course. Apart from that, I have to revise back everything that I have learned from Week 1 till Week 4 so that I can remember it better and does not forget it in any nearest period of time. I also planned to finish my report for this elective posting and prepare a poster of my elective posting journey to be submitted for evaluation by the end of Week 4.

Jeyasutha Rajasengodan
A173861
7/ 08 / 2022

2. Your progress so far
This week of baking was incredible. I have managed to do a few types of cakes and cupcakes which need a lot of techniques and precisions. There were marble cake, cheesecake brownies, red velvet cake , chocolate cake and not to forget my favourite velvet cupcake.

3. Your feelings and thoughts
I was overjoyed and thrilled by just looking at the end product of my baking. Each and every cake turns out to be yummy, of course with the help of my kind and passionate supervisor. Nevertheless, I felt satisfied knowing that my efforts were there.

4. How did you learn and apply the skill of decision making in your EP journey?
I believe skill of decision making is crucial in baking. Baking needs a lot of amendments in order to have a tasty cake. For instance, while baking the cakes, my supervisor and I have realised that our powdered sugar and heavy cream are almost out of stock. Thanks to my supervisor's notes that I have been reading for the past few weeks, I have managed to come up with an instant solution. Rather than going out to buy those stuff in midst of baking, I had grind the coarse sugar into powdered sugar. For the heavy cream, I melted the unsalted butter and slowly whisk it with a whole milk. Furthermore, I always improvise my baking skills and make quick decisions on adding certain ingredients based on my likings.

5. How did you manage your time throughout this EP journey?
Time management was quite tough on the first week of baking as baking requires hours of work and effort. However, I have managed it well by marking my baking class dates on my calendar to make sure I do not have any activities prior or after my baking class. This is to prevent myself getting exhausted at the end of the day. Days that I do not have to attend baking class will be my leisure time where I could do things like reading novels, watching movies and spending time with my family especially my newborn nephews.

6. Your plan for next week
(Week 4)
My plan is to learn on how to decorate birthday cakes and execute them. I have also decided to start working on my reflective writing next week.
