         <description><![CDATA[<div>A new third grade Michigan reading bill was signed into law by Governor Rick Snyder in October of 2017. This bill will require third grade students to be retained if they are below-level in reading and if they do not pass the state test, only once. This is a significant change that affects educators in all grade levels. This bill was put into place as a result of poor performance on state tests. This site explains how elementary support teachers and other support staff will work with these students five times per week in reading skills each student is lacking.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>
