         <description><![CDATA[<div>Discovered evidence, during the years 1830-1833, supporting the idea of uniformitatianism which is the "idea that the Earth was shaped entirely by slow-moving forces acting over a very long period of time."  This idea was not well accepted during his time as the idea of catastrophism, "a geologic idea that uses biblical chronology to date the Earth," was more accepted. </div>]]></description>

Based on this research, he claimed Earth's age to be 2.2 billion years. (Although today we think this age is twice as old, his estimated age was a huge leap during that time.) "Boltwood's formulas are compatible with several radioactive elements, including carbon-14, which has been used to date historical artifacts."</div>]]></description>
