They are constantly trying to one-up/trick each other. They run off and find a quarry and start messing around in the mud/clay. One of the boys starts sinking into the clay but manages to get out. He then jokingly pushes his friend down for not helping him, but his friend gets stuck deeper in the clay and begins sinking rapidly. The first boy runs off to get help but by the time he gets back, his friend is gone.
