Elizabeth was nicknamed The Virgin Queen, because of her refusal to marry. The queen also preferred not to have children so she remained single. If she had wanted children than she was thought to marry, though she never did. She also had the nickname "Good Queen Bess". She had that nickname mainly because she was very successful. Bess came because it was a nickname for Elizabeth, give her the name Good Queen Bess ("Queen Elizabeth I").

Queen Elizabeth I was always assumed to marry. For the reasons of having her husband help her govern the realm and to start a new royal family. Elizabeth was the last of her dynasty and many people in
England hoped they would have a royal family again.
After the first few weeks of having the crown, she was the most desired woman in Europe. No one is sure if the Queen actually did not want to marry or not, but, she showed no interest in being married. Elizabeth spoke on several occasions saying she personally preferred being single. She did not want to make the same mistake as her sister and marry a man not popular with her people ("Queen Elizabeth I").

According to an article called History Extra, there is a theory about why Elizabeth never wanted to marry. Her lack in pursuit of marriage could be because she is actually male. The story starts with Elizabeth dying as a child. Then her mother and father went searching to find the first red haired child to take her place. This theory is definitely far fetched and has no evidence to back it up, but it has not been ruled out.

Queen Elizabeth I was very conscious of her appearance. Her outfits were made to show her wealth, authority, and her power as the Queen. Her closet had plenty of gowns of rich fabrics adorned with jewels and elaborate surface detail, "which were both imposing and communicating wealth and status". In the 1600's 'Sumptuary' laws were used by Henry VIII and also used under Elizabeth. In this law, dress restrictions were listed for levels of status in society. Clothing of gold, tissue, and fur of sables in your gowns could only be worn by duchesses, marchionesses, and countesses. This law was inforced on June 15 in 1574.("Elizabeth I's Royal Wardrobe").
