         <description><![CDATA[<div>Problem Statement: Singaporeans do not have proper recycling habits, wasting useful materials.<br>Current measures: <br>1. Zero Waste SG launched a "Let's Recycle Together" campaign, recruiting more than 60 volunteers or "recycling rangers" to help out. Volunteers will knock on doors and hand out fliers on the uses of the blue recycling bins in their neighbourhood.<br>2. The National Recycling Programme was launched in 2001 to provide fortnightly collections of recyclables from HDB and landed homes. This extended to all households in 2009 when all condominiums were required by law to provide recycling receptacles within their estate grounds. From 2011 to 2014, blue recycling bins labelled with information on what can and cannot be recycled were introduced progressively to all HDB blocks and landed homes.<br><br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Problem Statement: As we continue to progress into the 21st Century, skills that people spent many years to hone are quickly becoming irrelevant and replaceable by artificial intelligence, which are already being slowly introduced into the workforce and more and more people are getting retrenched as a result, especially those who are in their 40s<br>Current measures:<br>1)SkillFuture, a government initiative where all Singaporeans are given $500 credits to allow them to attend courses to Ensure Singaporeans can continue to upgrade their skills to stay relevant in today’s society, on top of this, all Singaporeans aged 40 and above can receive up to 90% subsidies for their course fees as part of the SkillsFuture Mid-Career Enhanced Subsidy.<br>2)Professioabl Conversuon Programmes to help professionals, managers, executives and technicians (PMETs) who feel that their skills are becoming irrelevant and need to switch careers but require assistance from the government to do so. The programmes provides subsidies for employers that hire those aged 40 and above that have been unemployed for a period of time, to encourage companies to join this programmes and help those aged 40 and above that have become retrenched.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Problem Statement: Severe food wastage by businesses<br>It was estimated that about 791,000 tons of food is wasted per year and around half of the amount is generated by non-domestic sources , such as food manufacturers, retailers and hotels. Yet, not much light has been shone on this issue. <br>Current measures:<br>1.One-Dish@A-Time campaign by The Food Bank and Plentyfull, Encourages people (and restaurants) to consume/ sell meals made from ingredients that are deemed "ugly" that would otherwise be discarded. <br>2.In 2016 and 2017, the National Environment Agency (NEA) launched three Food Waste Minimisation Guidebooks for food retail establishments, supermarkets and food manufacturing establishments respectively. NEA has been actively engaging food business operators to encourage them to make use of the guidebooks.</div><div>For example, Sofitel Singapore Sentosa Resort and Spa has installed a food waste tracking system to minimise wastage.</div><div>3.          <description><![CDATA[<div><br></div><div><strong><br>Lim Yu Han Thaddeus 19S62 (version 2)<br></strong><br></div><div>Problem: there a lack of awareness about the situation of pulau semakau, Singapore's one and only landfill. it is teeming with biodiversity which is dying everyday from the pollution. estimated to only last until 2045<br><br>measure now: theres a "save semakau" campaign which provides tours around the island to help spread awareness to the problem. <br><br>The measure now does not have enough reach to cater to the entire population. many citizens are still unaware of the severe consequences their rubbish is causing to the environment in the semakau. Futhermore, some people who are already aware dont find the incentive to reduce their waste to reduce the impact on semakau</div>]]></description>

Four supermarket chains are pushing for this.<br>   - plastic bags still needed by people to line garbage bins etc., therefore still gets plastic bags from markets.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Problem Statement: Lack of engagement by the Singaporean community in reducing textile wastage</div><div><br></div><div>Current measures:</div><div>1) Greensquare, a social enterprise with a goal of raising Singapore’s textile recycle rate, provides convenient textile recycling services to Singaporeans so as to encourage increased participation in recycling amongst locals. Such initiatives include setting up drop-off locations where people may donate their unwanted clothes for recycling.</div><div><br></div><div>2) Project Upcycle, an initiative by the Central Singapore Community Development Council educates locals on ways to upcycle one’s old clothes through workshops. Through education, this project aims to bring awareness to Singaporeans on how they may reduce textile wastage by extending the lifespan of their old clothing.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Problem statement: There is a social stigma on those who are suffering from mental illness in society. This results in a lack in manpower in the field of mental healthcare and these people will have difficulty integrating into society.<br><br>Current measures: <br>1. MINDS is a NGO that serves the mentally disabled in Singapore. They run special schools for children, equip the young with skills useful for employment and hostels. They also offer Caregivers assistance to help with the welfare needs of people with intellectual disability. With many volunteers, they help in integrating the mentally disabled back to society where people will accept and understand them.<br><br>2. The institute of mental health offers a comprehensive range of psychiatric, rehabilitative and counselling services for people of all ages. This service is easily accessible and affordable to every citizen due to governmental schemes like medisave and cpf.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Problem Statement : Severe food by individuals<br>About 2.5kg of food waste is thrown away by an average Singapore home each week, and this makes up half of all waste the home disposes, a National Environment Agency (NEA) study released</div><div>It was reported that there is about 791,000 tons of food wasted yearly in Singapore.</div><div>Food waste accounts for about 10 per cent of the total waste generated in Singapore, but only 16 per cent of the food waste is recycled. The rest of it is disposed of at the waste-to-energy (WTE) plants for incineration. <br>Current measures:<br>1. NEA launched an outreach programme in November 2015 to encourage the adoption of smart food purchase, storage and preparation habits that help consumers save money while reducing food wastage at source. The outreach programme features educational materials publicised on newspapers, television and through community-led initiatives, which included an educational skit, as well as a resource package for schools. <br>Problems: <br>The outreach programme  is not effective in raising awareness and people are still not actively concious on the consequence of their food wastage<br>2. </div><div>One-Dish@A-time campaign by The Food Bank and Plentyfull, to encourage people to consume meals made from ingredients that have been discarded not because they have turned stale, but because they are “ugly”.<br>Problem: <br>The effect is not long lasting as it is patron only order food that restaurants create and not actively choosing to cook with "ugly" food. People are still not buying "ugly" food and cooking with it themselves, which is not solving the problem at its root. </div><div><br><br></div><div><br><br></div>]]></description>
