         <description><![CDATA[<div>Marijuana originally evolved in Central Asia before being introduced to Africa, South America, Europe, and the United States.<br><sup><br></sup>Hemp plants were very easy to grow, so when colonies were created hemp plants were commonly grown. Spain required it's colonies to grow it.<br><br>In the 1830's an Irish doctor by the name Brooke O’Shaughnessy discovered that extracts of cannabis could help patients with cholera. Not long after extracts were being sold at pharmacies.<br><br>After recreational weed became commonplace, the U.S. passed the Marijuana Tax Act of 1937. This act criminalized all uses of the substance except industrial.<br><br>It's status had changed under the Controlled Substances act of 1970, and was named a Schedule I drug.<br><br>Since that act, most states have legalized medical marijuana, and as of late some. like Colorado, have legalized recreational marijuana.</div>]]></description>
