It means deception among people, deception among one another, And deception of yourself. A wolf’s common nature is to attack, but if you don’t see the attack coming then your guards are down and you’re not protected.

Wolf in a sheep’s clothing is like a perception of not being true to yourself hiding inside of the body. For example, it’s like I’m friends with a girl and I compliment her on the dress and how it looks good on her body. But deep down I’m talking bad saying “who she thinking she is wearing that dress, it looks ugly”. Gossiping can be an example of like a wolf in a sheep’s clothing.

Matthew 5:15-20 is a perfect scripture for it. It even talks about how to recognize someone acting like a sheep but is a wolve. We will know them by their fruit. What behavior and characters is the person showing you. We can apply this scripture through our relationship and friendships with others in our life.

Based on what I read online and based on a commentary, I understand the phrase to mean someone who impersonates something or someone they are not. They may appear innocent, but they are dangerous.
