Masjid/Masyarakat Kitchen, and otherwise mKitchen for simple terms, is a joint initiative between IIUM, the mosque, and the society in Malaysia and abroad to strengthen the role of mosques and the public in aiding the needy through Soup Kitchen programmes and to produce job opportunities in the food and beverages (F&B) and delivery industries. Masjid Al-Syakirin Gombak (MASG) and Masjid Muaz Bin Jabal are the two mosques with whom IIUM has so far partnered (MMBJ). Future cooperation is hoped to be carried out on a large scale.

The concept of sustainable development, which focuses on meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs, is consistent with Islamic teachings on environmental stewardship.

Islam teaches that everything in the world belongs to God and that humans have a responsibility to be stewards of the earth and its resources. The Qur'an emphasizes the importance of preserving the natural world and living in balance with it. For example, the Qur'an states that "the earth is the Lord's, and all that it contains" (Qur'an 2:29) and that "there is not a single thing but with Us are its storehouses" (Qur'an 15:21).

In addition, Islamic teachings encourage the use of natural resources in a responsible and sustainable manner. The Prophet Muhammad is reported to have said that "the earth is green and beautiful, and God has appointed you his stewards over it" (Sahih Bukhari). I'm glad I was born a Muslim and learn about this in my study. It is truly an eye opener. Sustainable Development is important to me as important as it is to other Muslims.
