What standards are you most confident in teaching? Which standards or objectives were unknown to you? How are ILOs incorporated into your lessons? Which ones seem difficult to include? Other reactions, thoughts, questions, and ideas?

I felt most comfortable teaching the solar system because it was what I had the most background knowledge on before teaching. However, since I didn't have to teach it, micro organisms are most unknown to me. I have no problem bringing literacy and math into science, but I think it would be cool to tie in more social studies (only done very little in terms of past astronomers and their findings). I was surprised to see that I have used most of the ILO's , but could always be more thorough in making sure I have covered all the expected outcomes.

I think the Science process and thinking skills are the easiest to cover and incorporate in all science areas. I am most comfortable with the ILOs under standard 1 - the moon and standard 4 - the universe, because those were the units I was in charge of this year. I hope to gain more understanding of the other units as we switch around this year.

I think that it is helpful that the ILOs coordinate so well with the science core. I feel like anytime you can cover two things at the same time you and your students benefit. I am new to the fifth grade core and am unsure of which standards I am most comfortable teaching. Including the ILOs in my lessons comes petty easily because of the way they are aligned. Wen I taught sixth grade I felt like teaching seasons was the most difficult for me. The students misconceptions about the seasons probably hindered my students learning. Being aware of their misconceptions can definitely help me teach them more effectively.

The only unit I have taught is magnetism for one year. I really didn't think about the ILOs as I was frantically trying to learn about magnetism. I think I want to focus more on writing or demonstrating conclusions when they are done collecting data using the scientific terms we learned.

I really love how the ILOs merge great with the Science Core. It helps me feel like I don't have to work double. In fact, a lot of the ILOS are even aligned with the Common Core ELA standards. It is difficult to teach all of the core in a whole year. I think I struggle alot with pacing. My weakest standard is physics- i just squish it at the end and the students never score very well on that section. I really need to focus on how to merge independent learning along with some better lesson plans to make it more engaging and focused on the misconceptions.

I feel comfortable teach all the standards in science for 6th grade. It's good to look at the ILOs again and see that my lessons incorporate what is intended for the students to learn. The ILOs can be incorporated through modeling: demonstrate, pose questions, predict, compare, etc.
