“Learning is the process whereby knowledge is created through the transformation of experience” (Kolb, 1984, p. 38) I find this citation from Kolb very saying. As a practitioner I always seek to learn more and every day is a day of learning. It is happening with my patients, within the discussion with tutors, teachers and colleagues. Sometimes the learning happens later after the actual talk or treatment, within the reflection on the process.

I also believe that as a practitioner I will never stop learning new treatments and new aspects to our patient care. That is the hard part but also the beauty in health care.

I try to see it more as my different tools in the way of practicing. Sometimes the knowledge is from when I studied physiotherapy, sometimes from osteopathic studies and sometimes both.

However, I am acutely aware of the ethical complications related to financial conflicts of interest, including recommending tests and treatments that are unnecessary or that profit the doctor. I never accept gifts or financial benefits from my patients, and I’m on the record about

any services or products I may recommend — to make sure that patients know all of their options.

In relation to promoting my services, I adhere to the guidelines outlined by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) and the CAP Code. I have my credentials on my website and printed materials, and always ensure that I do not use any titles that might confuse patients about my level of training — particularly in situations where patients might mix up my title with the title of “doctor.” I have given an example in my 3 year of my osteopath education where I tried to uphold my authority

I’ve learned to present this advice as part of a complete treatment package, something that supports and enhances the manual therapy I provide. Patients often look to me for direction, and I now feel comfortable offering straightforward, practical suggestions that are tailored to their needs and readiness to change. Being clear, respectful, and evidence-informed has helped strengthen the therapeutic relationship and improve patient outcomes.

This shift in attitude marks a significant step in my development as a healthcare professional—moving from hesitation to proactive support in promoting long-term health and wellbeing.
