Join us for one week of work experience during the September 2026 school holidays to get hands-on experience working with heavy structural steel - cutting, shaping, assembling and welding the structures that help bring major projects to life, and try out for one of our highly sought after apprenticeships!

This is your opportunity to see if a fabrication trade is right for you — and for us to meet our next generation of apprentices!

This intensive one-week placement will provide students with the opportunity to gain hands-on experience and explore careers in the construction industry. Over five immersive days, participants will develop practical skills and experience in one of the following areas:

• Carpentry

• Waterproofing

• Painting

2026 Work Experience Dates
Students can choose one of the following weeks:

• Week 1: 21–25 September 2026

• Week 2: 28 September–2 October 2026

Selection Criteria
Students must submit a Resume/CV and meet the following requirements:

• Be in Year 11 or 12 and available during the September 2026 school holidays

• Be working towards achieving a P1 driver’s licence (driver’s licence preferred but not essential)

• Hold a White Card

• Have previous relevant work experience

• Hold a Certificate I in Construction (ideal but not essential)

During the placement, you'll rotate between the workshop and the office, learning about different roles while being supervised by experienced staff.

These positions provide students with the opportunity to complete a Certificate II in Supply Chain Operations (TLI20421) while continuing their senior schooling, gaining valuable workplace experience and developing practical skills for future career pathways.

About the Traineeship

• Nationally recognised Certificate II in Supply Chain Operations

• 18–24 month structured traineeship

• Paid employment one day per week while completing Years 11 and 12 (Saturday availability required at some locations)

• Practical experience across Warehousing and Customer Service

• Development of key workplace skills including teamwork, communication, and time management

• Motivated, reliable, and respectful

• Positive team players with a willingness to learn

• Customer-focused with a strong work ethic

• Committed to completing Year 12

A local construction company, Cross Grain Constructions, is looking for a keen and enthusiastic Year 12 student interested in a Carpentry Apprenticeship.

Their team works on new residential builds from start to finish, giving apprentices the opportunity to gain experience across all areas of construction.

If you're interested but would like to learn more about the industry first, they are also happy to offer work experience so you can explore whether carpentry is the right career for you.
