Rachel is a people-oriented and patient person who lends a listening ear often to troubled friends or younger ones. She has a burden for youths and strongly believes in challenging the next generation. She was involved in many areas of volunteer work in Ang Mo Kio Family Service Centre and Singapore Youth for Christ where she adapted to the needs of the organisation and learnt new skills on the job, such as video editing. She is also involved in church ministry where she teaches guitar lessons for interested parties of all ages. Her passion for music is evident as she has performed on request for certain events and Values In Action programmes in her contract school. Though her academic interest is in Mathematics, she took a variety of modules from the NUS Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences which she thoroughly enjoyed. She has always sought to be a well-balanced thinker- someone who appreciates both the beauty of logic and the arts.

Rachel has the musical ability to play by ear and is flexible in learning different songs that suit different age groups. She can play the guitar, piano, ukulele and cajon, 3 of which were self taught. Besides playing music, she loves being creative and enjoys reading, writing and swimming. She loves having meaningful conversations and listening to others tell their stories or experiences.

Alvin is a friendly introvert who has a thing for guiding the young, which is why he became an OGL during his 2nd year in Junior College, and in NUS joined his faculty's orientation week as a senior during his Year 2, 3, and 4. He went to Cambodia for a OCIP trip (Project Dawn) in 2012, though he contracted dengue fever (along with half the team) halfway through the 2-weeks stay. In the local scene, he participates in an annual project called Project C.A.N organised by the NUS Community Service Club, where in 3 years of experience he has done door-to-door collection of canned food and dry rations, supermarket booth promotion, and distribution of the donations to the needy. Earlier this year, Alvin used to participate in a Red Cross initiative called First Aiders On Wheels, where volunteers of the Singapore Red Cross station at East Coast Park, as well as patrol the coast on bicycles, to treat casualties on weekends and public holidays.

Alvin is a trained first aider who has had come into contact with blood a lot of times. He knows a bit of basic Photoshop. He is trained in basic photography, and has been taking photos of fireworks for 9 years. He has done some video editing before, and enjoys creating stopmotion videos. He is interested in stargazing/astronomy, and is proud to have observed more than 30 shooting stars from Singapore in his life (in just 4 years), and the recent transit of Venus (which will not happen again until 2117). One useless fact about him is that he can memorise 25 decimal places of Pi.

Anthony is a patient individual who knows he is patient as he has devoted enough hours attempting to convert little kiddies to be interested in the piano . Music has always been a driving force in his life, and will continue to be. He appreciates classical the most, but also listens to new age, techno, retro, pop, ambient, and world music. Fundamentally, he is supportive of any form of expression/art that would give voice to those who may not have a conventional avenue to be heard, or who have no one to turn to in difficult times.

He was actively involved in UNDP projects in the Maldives some years ago, where he helped in the construction of infrastructure on a rural island, taught economics and also coordinated a piano education program on another slightly more developed island. He worked heavily with Maldivian teens and children during these projects.

He is a photography enthusiast, but is hopeless with Photoshop, and hopes he will never need to resort to that program. He is also capable of running physical training programs to teens if required, given his background as best physical trainee in NS, although bits have sagged and ballooned quite badly since those glorious days. He practises basic Yoga on the Wii, and may be able to get away with instructing others in this area.

She has also worked in an indoor children playground where she had to interact and play with children while ensuring their safety.

Sharifah does not have any special skills unfortunately but she has emceed a couple of hall events that include formal hall dinners and talentime competitions. She has also acted in one hall theatre production where she was part of the main cast. That's about it! Sharifah believes that she is a good team player too. She works well within a group and she enjoys collaborative environments! In addition to that, she loves having specific instructions to follow. Sharifah is willing to learn new things and at the end of the day she just wants to have new and meaningful experiences! :)

Her past working experiences include an attachment at Alexandra Hospital, where she shadowed doctors and saw feet amputated and stomachs cut open (gladly she did not become a doctor in fear of blood). She has also worked at Long John Silvers as a cashier and Morris Allen as an admin staff. Her last internship gave her a chance to work at Stan Lai's (赖声川) Performance Workshop (表演工作坊) in Taiwan, where she assisted mainly in the productions backstage, plus outreach efforts and school programs, i.e. conducting talks and drama lessons for corporate companies, schools and the general public.

Poh Lai was a quiet and shy person before he was a young adult, through working experience as an engineering assistant/EA (in the backend support staff) after Polytechnics he remained as an introvert person. His roles as an EA in a corporate company (AT&T) covered research/investigate/test/verify on certain new products which vendors supply to the company, and liaised with the vendors and co-ordinated with in house / floor supervisor for availability of machine for him to do some testing on new products. He got to meet different vendors (external engineers/sales executives/director) from different companies. Also, he performed some engineering drawings and slide presentation from his finding to various groups of engineers and managers during the departmental meetings. He did it heartily though it was not his passion. He was well-liked by his colleagues.

Passion

It did not come cross in his mind that he would finally get the opportunity to study what he wanted to do ..., in 1995, he enrolled himself for a diploma in Fine Arts - (painting) with NAFA. He was nominated to be a class monitor for the 1st semester. he did well for his roles though he did not have the leadership quality as he dislikes to get people to do something they dislike. He stepped down from a class monitor, however, he remained a very supportive class mate in his class. For example, there was a need to raise funds for producing graduation show 1998 art catalogues a month before the assessment period, he went to look for and meet those potential sponsors in their companies. He managed to help the class to raise substantial amount of funds to publish sufficient quantity of catalogues. In 1996, he led a group (22 students from sec year fine art dip) his fine art classmates to paint a huge mural (Stop smoking) along the Esplanade on the Bay. From 1999 to 2002, he occasionally volunteered himself in curating group art exhibitions and doing some administrative works.

He tried to stay true to his fine art training and practice. He did some freelance jobs such as mural painting, on-the-spot portrait sketching at World Trade Centre Singapore, medical illustration for SGH, and commissioned paintings. He was quite a conservative minded person until he went to Paris in 2003 for his 3-month Artist-in-Residence programme in the Cite International des Arts (CIA). Where he met great artists, internationally famous musician, famous architects, writers, ... who lived in CIA. Paris is where he opens up his mind and began to see things in different perspectives, since then he has become a more open-minded person though there is still introvert in him. He fell in love with Paris at the first sight. That's why when he returned from Paris and curated a solo (3rd solo) for himself which entitled 'Poh Lai Fell in Love with Paris'. Those great people he met, things and environment he observed in Paris has somehow influenced his thought and the way he sees things in this world. He wishes to learn French language, and re-visit Paris again in a near future.

In 2004 - 2006, he studied a BA in Fine Art (major in Painting, and minor in art history) in Falmouth University. During his studies in Falmouth Uni he was one of the student Ambassadors for the Uni. He also initiated a jogging club in the Uni, jogging together in the evening with a group young joggers/runners. He experienced that he could get along with young people well. After returning from UK in Aug 2006, he did what he used to do in freelance jobs, and focused more on art coaching from 2008 to 2011. He developed his love for teaching gradually and took on more art coaching programmes in Primary and Secondary Schools. In mid May 2011, he applied to MOE for becoming a full-time art teacher. He was posted to a secondary school as a contract teacher in Jan 2012. He was one of the teachers in charge in Guitar CCA, though he cannot play guitar, but he hopes to learn how to play some days. He hopes to inspire his art students to reach their goals.

Interest

Jogging, running, singing, travelling, listening to music, drawing and painting.

If you like to know more on his past professional site, plz visit www.limpohlai.com

Michelle also has a great passion for music and is evident through the fact that the only CCA she ever joined was band (in Secondary school and Junior College) where she plays the trombone. She has also taken up leadership position in both sec and jc band. To add, she is also comfortable with playing the piano. She unfortunately does not have many skills in designing except using those awesome applications on the smartphone that makes her photos look really sophisticated and elegant. She may not be well-versed using technology to explore her creativity; she does enjoy making hand-crafted cards.

Her most memorable teaching experience had to be her 6 months relief teaching at her alma mater in which the children that she met has made her walk down this road of being a teacher; part of her feels that she may one day return to becoming a primary school teacher. She has participated in various volunteering programmes that involve children between ages 7 to 16. An ongoing volunteer programme would involve tutoring children coming from under-privileged families. Most importantly, she hopes that through her action, everyone may come to see the beauty in every child.
