Both countries are at war, so Alem is welcome in neither place. But then solders break into the house, telling Alem and his father to go. They are forced to flee to England but when Alem’s father leaves him there alone and tragedy tears there family apart, Alem is fostered by the Fitzgeralds.

Alem is so brave and stands up for what he believes in when others would stand down. The ending isn’t happy, but I get the feeling Alem can cope with anything, if he only clings on to the one thing he has left: love...
