Book Talk Script 2 - Caterpillar to Butterfly

My name is Heather Blackwell

I want to help you discover how a caterpillar becomes a butterfly!

The book I chose to share with you is titled Caterpillar to Butterfly and was written by Laura Marsh.

The reason I chose this book is because we have been studying lifecycles in the classroom and I felt it would be a great tool for engaging students and helping them to visualize how a caterpillar turns into a butterfly. This book is full of beautiful photo, it lists many interesting facts, and introduces grade level specific vocabulary words.

The details of this book include photographs of various butterfly species, specific facts about how they lay eggs, and information about how the eggs hatch and what various caterpillars emerge. The book goes on to describe foods eaten by caterpillars, the creation and stages of a chrysalis, and how butterflies emerge and mature. I love that the book describes the anatomy of different butterflies and that it explains the important ways in which markings and spots protect them from predators. I feel
that this book can be a very useful tool for introducing lifecycles or continuing to teach about them for kindergarten or first grade students.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
