         <description><![CDATA[<div>The thing that stood out the most to me in this week's readings were the differences in parent/teacher conferences talked about in the Communicating with Families article. When I originally thought of parent-teacher conferences the dreaded meetings I had to send my parents to after school came to mind. It always came as a shock to me how much the conversation centered around my personality and behavior at school rather than how I was doing academically. I am not sure if this was because I performed well academically, or if this was the case for everyone. I really liked the idea of a student-led conference. The student should be able to take ownership of what they are doing in the classroom and explain to themselves as well as their parents how this has impacted their grades. Once this is scaffolded and becomes effective, it turns the students into great communicators and self-evaluators. </div>]]></description>
