Are you surprised by the results? Do you think the news sources/outlets that you frequently use have the same beliefs as yours? Do the news articles/outlets that you see advertised to you social media match the beliefs or biases that you identified in your self-assessment quiz?

I was not surprised by my results of the Rate Your Bias quiz because I feel that I am mostly aware of my personal/political beliefs and how that may impact my potential biases or the way I perceive news. The news sources that I frequently see are usually leaning to the same side that I would consider myself and I am sure social media usage impacts the advertising I receive by collecting data on what I frequently choose to view.

I wasn't surprised by my results, I'm generally pretty left leaning. I took a class a few sessions ago that used AllSides and found that many of the news sources I frequent are also left or leaning left. I'm trying to make a conscious effort to read more laterally and learn from opposing positions.

I was actually kind of surprised by the result. I know I am hard left on every one of these issues according to the provided scale, but when I submitted the test it rated me in the center. I also know that modern liberalism has moved toward the center, but I wonder what kind of responses I would have to give to move the result to the left at all. And my newsfeed is heavily curated at this point; I still get some major conservative news stories, possibly due to the outlet's overall popularity, but I most often tend to click on sources that align with my existing worldview (liberal opinion and international, fact-based reporting)

The quiz result I received was 'Left'. This did not surprise me, I know that I lean left on almost all topics and issues. Most of my family and a couple of my friends are right leaning which I find upsetting, but they are also good people who would help anyone in need if asked. Giving people with big hearts and who are right leaning perplex me. I've been staying away from most news sources the last year or two. I find myself overwhelmed and anxiety ridden if I take in too much new. The sources I look to are all left leaning, which I am aware of, but I can't listen to or read right leaning news media, I don't trust it. I do try to be critical of the outlets I frequent and realize that left leaning news media commits sensationalism and is full of bias. I try to just get the facts and leave the rest behind. It's not easy to do though. The articles that are pushed towards me on social media definitely coincide with my beliefs and often don't offer a differing perspective for me to think about.

I am aware that I am left of center. I was raised in an extremely religious family in Texas in the 1980s and 1990s. I spent the first 18 years of my life learning to be racist, sexist, homophobic, etc., etc. The news media, family opinions, societal expectations, and religious dogma I grew up consuming and breathing in poisoned my heart and my mind. After two years living in Boston, at the age of 20, I had an epiphany one day and suddenly I saw my biases much more clearly.

Of course, Boston is a town that still struggles with racism, classism, homophobia, etc.- but it is nothing like the scale of living in Texas. I know there are good people and bad people with positive views and harmful views everywhere; but, I will never again let myself live in a place where I am consuming hate on a daily basis and accepting that hate as god-sanctioned or rightful in anyway. And, this extends to the media I consume. For the sake of trying to stay "informed," I will (occasionally) read or watch right-leaning media (like clips of Fox News) to see/hear what the "other side" is saying, but I can't bear to expose myself to hateful rhetoric on a regular basis.
