I think the competence that suits me more is the number one, called "Facilitating individual and group learning in an enriching enviroment"
The reason why I chose this competence is that I think is the one I have depeloped the most in my social path as social educator, and, especially, working with young people.
A few years ago I wouldn't have thought that this would be "my competence" but it's true that I have learnt a lot thanks to different situation and experiences at work, that me me more open at changes, at accepting failures or be more flexible at unexpected situations.
When working in groups, is essential to know that sometimes the frame you have been working or the activities you prepared can be changed at the time, or even can't be done for different reasons, and this can not be a reason for dissapointment or frustration.
In my case, I have been working for three years now with teenagers and being open to changes (especially in this current situation still pandemic) is a daily task to take into account.

Sometimes I prepare a workshop in a specific issue for days, and then suddenly we end up talking or managing something completely different. And being able to do this, both individually and in groups, gives confidence and empowerment to people and to you as professional.
Let's say how quickly you can act on the unexpected gives you more self confidence. Also the capacity to improvise and work on demand.

As an example I could tell about an experiencie I had last year, I had prepared a workshop in social media networks and security with youg people, and it turned out that they already knew a lot more than me about I was going to tell them, so I started asking and make them reflect about the issue and they felt heard and taken into account, so finally the session was completely succesful.

Taking into account my work experience and, therefore, my personal experience, I have chosen competence number six "Displaying intercultural competence", as I consider that one of the most necessary tools in the development of social work is the understanding of other people's experiences, regardless of their culture or lifestyle. When we put this competence into action, we give rise to active listening and understanding of the other, to empathy and reflection. This can´t only help us personally and collectively, but can also lead to reflection and collaboration for the well-being of others in the group. The understanding of other visions can contribute to a common and therefore personal wellness, and this can be reflected in social improvement.

Reflecting on which situation I could give as an example, I would say that I use this competence in almost all interventions as a social worker, not only in groups but also individually, as I always try to make the person, as long as they are prepared for it, put themselves in the place of the people involved, or in the place of the environment in general. For example, when I worked in a social lunchroom, every morning I tried to bring together conversations between the users, wherever they came from and whatever their story was, the important thing was that they felt supported or at least listened to and understood by others

For me personally, very important at this moment, in this context of extended sanitary/pandemic problem, in the context of continuously adapting need, is the competence related to facilitating individual and group learning in an enriching environment. When I first read about it, and especially about the attitudes - readiness to improve and accept ambiguity - I said in my mind this is mine, this is the key now in this strange times! Then I went forward and realize that being open-minded and ready to accept that failure is not a problem, a bad thing, but it is a natural part of learning is another good attitude that could keep us on the good way in this context and in general in thinking and designing learning contexts. On the other hand, I was always passionate with the ”thinking outside the box” activities and, being in the role of working in social field, I also tried to put others in the contexts that use this kind of ”working with the reality”, trying new methods and different ways of addressing problems. Of course, when involving this in learning and in social working in general, you have to be prepared to take risks and be be focused because you are permanently challenged to remain ”updated” to everything that might change and update around you. I have to admit that each and every of this points I need to be prepared to assume, because I think that there are no days in which I do not need them at my job. So, I have to admit that even a teacher is not any more a ”guru” in what he is teaching, but rather a facilitator of the others personal, individual or in group learning. Especially in the online context, when we had online meetings with our participants, this was great - to have the power and to be enough open-minded to let go of what you always thought about learning and relationships between beneficiaries and to be able to adapt to what is happening around.

I also make the link with the team to formulate our emotions, and rely on colleagues. We also have psychological support from the team's psychologists, and analysis of situations. My skills include being able to express your feelings, your discomfort, your difficulties, and knowing how to stand back.

I chose competence number 6 "Demonstrate intercultural skills".
In the multi-skilled sector, the public received is very diverse (age, socio-professional category, cultures, etc.). I have to respect the differences of each person I interview. My work requires me to train, inform myself and develop my knowledge of the different groups I work with (customs, ethnicity or tradition).
This competence goes beyond intercultural issues and must be complemented by questions of gender and new family models.
Societal changes (Trans identity, homoparental couples...) require us to have an active and benevolent listening posture without intrusion and by being at least informed on these different subjects. This also involves non-verbal communication and the questions we ask, which can have an impact on the support and perception of the people we welcome.
I am sometimes at a loss as to what guidance to give and what forms to fill in because we are in a binary and heterosexual society where a lot of changes still need to be made (Mr/Mrs form, domestic violence...).
Examples:
- A mother who comes to the social service and asks for help in writing letters to inform different organisations (social security, college, family allowance fund...) that her child has changed his first name because he has changed sex.
- A woman went to the social service to find out about her rights regarding the child she had raised for several years. The child was born of a homosexual union, but as the woman is not the child's biological mother, she has no legal rights over the child, who now lives with his biological mother (the couple having separated).
- A man comes to the service looking for help in a complex situation of domestic violence and separation. There are no solutions for gay men who are victims of violence.

I have chosen competence n°1 "to facilitate individual and collective learning in a rewarding environment". Indeed, throughout our career as social workers, the question of learning arises in order to evolve and increase our skills. On the other hand, learning is also a factor of link in social support in the sense that it allows to empower and remobilize the public. The objective of the social worker is to accompany the person towards a return to autonomy, which involves stages of self-confidence building, personal development and encouraging the potential of the people. One of the interesting fields is to encourage creativity, both for the person (new experiences) and for the professional (innovative methodologies).
Within the Department of Isère, we can find the DPM service (Direction Performance et Modernisation) which proposes innovative work techniques to professionals. Professionals can be trained in these techniques and then apply them in the field with different publics.
There are already actions around self-confidence and self-esteem, aimed at the Department's public. Courses called "A few days like no other" allow a group of people to re-mobilize their personal confidence, while being able to count on the benevolent gaze of the group, which gives a new dynamic concerning their socio-professional integration.
Finally, some professionals have been trained to use the MAAC Lab technique (https://www.maac-lab.com/fr/programme-de-coaching-pour-le-changement/), an innovative coaching technique that can be used for both individual coaching and collective action.

I chose sheet number 5 because communication with families is the basis of my work as a childminder in maternal and child protection.
You have to be able to put yourself at the level of the families, to be an active listener and attentive to all the elements of communication, both between myself and each of the parents, between myself and the child or children and between the parents and the children. Communication is also important in relationships with colleagues and also with partners.
New methods of supporting parenthood are being developed, based on parenting skills, which require the ability to step back and allow parents to bring out their qualities. To be able to observe, it is necessary to have knowledge of both child development and parent-child relationships, as well as cultural differences, and to be able to analyse. To be able to encourage and support, I think that empathy is an important skill, it can allow the person accompanied to express their emotions, and help them to decode them.
Case study: in a home visit during a child protection assessment. The two social workers must listen at all levels in order to perceive a maximum number of elements of the family's life (verbal and non-verbal listening, observation, feelings, etc.) in order to best assess the difficulties. Active listening and empathy allow families to feel confident.
The Petits Pas Grands Pas method is an approach that is based on parental skills, to enable them to gain confidence in themselves and to develop their child's attachment bond.

Translated with www.

Competence 4: Collaborating successfully in teams. I chose this competence because I consider it important to work with my different colleagues. I do not see social work in isolation. I know that I can rely on the different skills and interests of the team members for both individual and collective interventions. For example, I want to initiate an action around food, I identify my shortcomings in running the project and therefore I call on colleagues who have more experience than me, the idea being to carry out the action with the skills of all. Teamwork inevitably requires listening to and respecting the words and opinions of colleagues. Everyone does not go at the same pace, the important thing for me is to be aware of this and to accept it. When we receive the public within the framework of budgetary support, the complementarity of two social workers allows the person to reflect on his or her own feasible options; the approach is different with tools that are intended to be complementary.

I believe that one of the key competences for our work in education concerns the role that we teachers need to be aware of and perhaps redefine, that of facilitator of learning for others, but also for our own learning. Given all the challenges in education in recent years, it is important to be open to embrace the elements of novelty, of paradigm shift in learning, to explore new sources of learning, to build activity scenarios in which we show our willingness to trust in the capacity of young people to direct their own learning. In dealing with students we need to be open to using different ways and methods to encourage creativity, problem-solving and out-of-the-box thinking, and even the willingness to improvise and accept ambiguity. More than ever, ambiguity has been one of the challenges of the pandemic, crisis period we have all been through, we have been challenged to identify new learning needs, to review strategies and ways of working with young people, with adults, to find new ways of reaching out to the beneficiaries of our services.
Also in coordinating the activities of the institution this competence is essential to identify the training needs of teachers, providing contexts for professional and personal development, motivating and valuing staff.

·         Eviter le silence;

·         Garder la cohérence tout en restant prudents;

·         Opter pour une communication responsable (en donnant le bon exemple);

·         Donner du sens aux actions (allier mots et action);

·         Valoriser et reconnaitre les efforts;

·         Rester à l’écoute;

Milena Veysendaz - English

In a historical context such as the one we are living, influenced by the change of communication paradigm dictated by long periods of social confinement, the choice of topic number 5 "communicating meaningfully with others" has acquired an even more important value for me.

Indeed, given my personal and - above all - professional experience, establishing a positive relationship with others - individuals or groups - has acquired a more important role, particularly in my job. Indeed, this crisis calls for a new form of communication, more horizontal, direct, authentic, human, positive and resilient.

On reflection, I believe that this skill is at the heart of our job, now more than ever. We need to be open to feelings and emotions, while ensuring a high level of listening.

I will certainly need to follow guidelines to be able to develop and apply methods that promote self-awareness. It will certainly be necessary to:

•        Avoid silence;

•        Keeping consistency while remaining careful;

•        Opt for responsible communication (setting a good example);

•        Give meaning to actions (combine words and action);

•        Valuing and recognising efforts;

•        Staying tuned;

• Thinking about tomorrow. Building the next step with a common narrative.

In general, I try to make the best use of this expertise in all situations that come my way.

An example I will always keep in mind is the old skyscraper of Aosta City.

After many years of waiting, 80 families were moved from an old building (called a skyscraper) to a new building complex. In addition to logistical help, the residents also needed emotional support. It was very important in this intervention to put this skill into action. The move took place just before the start of the pandemic and I was able to keep in touch with the families even during the lockdown. I reconnected with them exactly one month ago (end of September 2021) and realised how important it was to actively listen and be able to encourage people who were going through a period of uncertainty. This was certainly one of those occasions when I had to show empathy.

The beginning was not easy, especially he was unable to manage the house adequately.

With the support of me and the operators, things went better. Now he lives in a house and he’s able to maintain an adequate standard of living.

I think this story is the one that gives me the most satisfaction for the success.

I recognize in myself the capacity for active listening, which, in my opinion, is the main skill that one must have in order to work in the social sector.
Every day I meet people in difficulty who above all need to express their emotions.
Knowing how to communicate with words and non-verbal language is fundamental to be able to establish meaningful relationships with all people, especially with those who are in difficulty.
Particular attention must be paid to their history and their qualities.
Listening actively means understanding the situation and the emotions of others, trying to empathize with them.
Very important is also personal reflection, why a worker in the social field should be ready to change his beliefs in order to better listen and help others.
In my professional experience, to the people that I have met, accompanied and helped during a period of their life, I had always given my time and my presence when they needed it and they always thanked me for that.

Actually, jobs: on one hand I am used to work alone, whenever I write projects or have to work on a translation, on the other hand I often talk or meet my colleagues (even if we cannot meet in person we always try to keep all communication lines open) and I recently got the chance to start teaching again in the municipal youth centre that hosts our association.
I give English classes, both in-person and on-line, to students that range between 10 and 72 years of age! It's a challenge, especially the on-line classes because the group is big and we have to do everthing over Zoom (an issue that the OASIS group knows well), so improvising comes to be a big part of the job, but I find it very fulfilling and I hope I will be able to motivate and empower my students and make them experience an enriching learning space.

I am a school counselor and I believe that the most important competence for my activity is to facilitate individual and group learning in an enriching environment. A first step in counseling is to create a climate of trust for students. School counseling activities aim to facilitate self-knowledge, identify realistic learning objectives and motivation to achieve them. In this work I always face challenges, difficult situations and I need an open attitude towards lifelong learning and acceptance of failure (in some situations the counseling office is only a stop before exclusion). When I interact with students in educational activities, I always have something to learn and that is why I really like this job. I work with students at risk and at the beginning of the school year with a class the first lessons were a failure. I was trying to set rules, to teach by "manual" but nothing seemed to work. I went to class prepared with sheets and materials to keep them busy and left disappointed that they were wasted and did not arouse much interest. There were many students in the class with learning difficulties and when they saw me with sheets they rolled their eyes and put headphones in their ears. Then I stopped and started going to class "with my hands in my pockets", proposing topics for discussion and listening to them, sometimes just to guide their conversations. The students became more compliant and interested, not the kindest but we certainly grew a lot together.

ENGLISH
In my opinion, „Communicating meaningfully with others” is an important competence which a social worker should have. Interaction with beneficiaries and partners, expressing and managing emotions effectively are important aspects in establishing trusting relationships with them, but also in creating a secure environment for beneficiaries.

Openness to others and the sincerity of expressing emotions help the beneficiaries to acquire knowledge more easily, to develop skills and competences. Significant communication involves, at the same time, active listening from the social worker and the demonstration of empathy towards the beneficiaries. Active listening and empathy form and strengthen a relationship of trust with the beneficiary and make him feel safe. We need to establish trusting relationships with beneficiaries to encourage the expression of emotions, conflict management, promoting diversity, prevention of risky behaviors.

A practical example of a situation in which I used this skill is a counseling session in which I had as a beneficiary a student whose mother abandoned her, her father worked abroad, and she lived with her grandmother. Following an evaluation carried out in that year, I noticed that the results of the questionnaires showed the installation of advanced depressive states. From the first counseling session I listened to her, showed her empathy and told her that I would be with her in the process of developing positive attitudes towards herself and others and emotional skills. What we worked on together then went very easily and naturally, aspects that led to a significant decrease in depressive states and to regaining self-confidence. I think that without meaningful communication I would not have been able to reach her, I would not have been able to establish a relationship of trust and I would not have been able to help her.

In my daily activities, as much in my private life as in my professional one, I believe a key competence is displaying intercultural competence. As part of the Hungarian minority in Romania, all my life I have been aware of the cultural differences, context and backgrounds. Besides being aware of them, I have to know how to interact with and how to combine the different cultures and perspectives, as well as how to deal with this in everyday life. Because of this, I can understand and make them feel accepted and understood which creates the necessary fondation for the collaboration and work.

ENGLISH

A key competence of mine as a social worker in the evaluation team of children / students / young people with special educational needs in order to guide them in school, I consider it to be significant communication with others (5), both beneficiaries and colleagues.
My strength is the ability to listen actively, being attentive both to what the beneficiaries say and to their non-verbal language, combined with the ability to adapt to the potential of each.
I believe that, due to these skills, I manage to determine the children / students / young people who often come scared, not knowing what will happen to them (often, at school, they are told that they do not know nothing and that the parents have to take them to specialists to see what is wrong with them), to make them laugh, to make them aware that they have something beautiful of their own (eyes, voice, smile, etc.).
Thus, when I reach my colleagues, psychologist and pedagogue, they are no longer afraid.
In order to be able to do this, I apply the knowledge gained throughout the activity.

I consider that all competences are equally important and necessary, although, after hesitating between no. 4 and no. 6, I have chosen competence no. 6 "Displaying intercultural competence". During my training, I have participated in exchanges, both European and international, and worked in countries such as France or Argentina. This has allowed me to experience, get to know, learn and understand other ways of observing, reflecting, interacting, networking, intervening, mobilising, respecting, etc. In recent years, I have been working with multidisciplinary professional teams from different cultures and backgrounds, as well as accompanying groups and people from different backgrounds, cultures and customs, thus having the opportunity to enrich my knowledge, share reflections, develop, improve and put into practice my skills and attitudes in terms of interculturality.
