The first three "national appeals" (now called national organizations) were also established in 1961 in the United Kingdom, Switzerland, and the United States. Since then, WWF-US has grown to include over 1 million supporters and has helped lead conservation projects in Alaska, the Northern Great Plains, and around the world!

The WWF addressed the governance and empowered Indigenous people and local communities to have a meaningful seat at the table and benefit directly from conservation efforts. This collaborative conservation approach affirms and secures customary land and legal rights of local communities and Indigenous people.

Women and girls often play a central role in the use and management of natural resources, yet they are often excluded from participating in community decisions about how those resources should be used. WWF helps eliminate cultural, legal, and other barrier to full engagement, helping women and girls gain better access to education and economic decision-making opportunities so they can improve their lives and help lead environmental change in their communities.

With partners like CARE and USAID, WWF launches innovative conservation projects that merge conservation and human well-being, and are cornerstones of international development. Together, they work with communities to develop sustainable practices that translate to increased income, improved livelihoods, greater health, gender equity, and better managed and more accessible natural resources.

For its entire history, WWF has joined a group of conservation organizations at the forefront of efforts to incorporate human rights and needs into their work. The most important inhabitants of any forest, river basin, or seascape are its people, and the policies WWF has embraced are central to making sure that all people have access and opportunity to better their lives in the places that they work.

WWF's Environmental and Social Safeguards Framework is designed to ensure meaningful community engagement, which results in better conservation, and to identify and promptly address risks associated with their work.

In many of the places WWF works, people are directly reliant on nature for their health and economic well-being. By securing health services, supporting sustainable livelihoods and helping communities build their capacity to manage their needs and opportunities, WWF builds a foundation for conservation that helps both people and nature.

WWF connects cutting-edge conservation science with the collective power of their partners in the field, more than one million supporters in the United States and five million globally, as well as partnerships with communities, companies, and governments.

Today, human activities put more pressure on nature than ever before, but it’s also people who have the power to change this trajectory. Together, WWF believes that we can address the greatest threats to life on this planet and protect the natural resources that sustain and inspire us.

Recognizing that the problems facing our planet are increasingly more complex and urgent, WWF focuses its work on six ambitious goals. World Wildlife Fund has been a huge part of my knowledge of the environment and my learning of the world, as well as my personal efforts. Since I was young, I have used WWF as a resource for my life and for my education of the world around me :)

 "Projects piloted through this fund must meet the following criteria:

-Address climate vulnerability of one or more target species through interventions that directly support those species or help communities adapt to change and thus reduce pressure on target species.

-Be implemented in one year or less with plans to monitor results in the following years.

-Focus on on-the-ground project implementation of a project rather than research."

This idea portrays a wide range of ideas that can support the conservation efforts that pertain to our lives today.

An example of this project would be controlling the temperatures of the sand in the Choco regions of Columbia for sea turtles. The sex of a sea turtle is determined by the temperature of the sand in which the egg is incubated. The higher temperatures result in more female sea turtles, which, with the increasing temperatures, due to global warming, ends up bringing the mortality rates up due to almost entirely female populations.

Now, we are seeing a rapid increase of animals dying out, environments being destroyed and our climate becoming worse and worse. WWF is a foundation that has, over the years, become committed to supporting the preservation of our world.
