Since the pandemic and the country being on lockdown, I have seen a lot more people out and about in my neighborhood than I usually did. Everyday, my family and I try to go on a walk or bike ride after dinner. Recently, as more people have gotten out, it has become harder to bike because people are always on the sidewalk. There is also a golf course in my neighborhood, and I’ve seen a few people walking on the path around it. Despite people being out, everyone is really responsible about it, and whenever people look like they are about to cross paths with each other, one group would go on the grass and the other would stay on the sidewalk to maintain social distance. Since there is such a large amount of people out, cars have had to worry more about running into people than running into other cars. The roads are usually empty in my neighborhood, with only a few cars here and there. My neighborhood has also been very proactive about limiting gatherings of large groups. In my neighborhood each section has a park, and the neighborhood has closed off the parks and stationed a security car by them to ensure that no one goes to the park. The employees that work at the front gate of the neighborhood have also been wearing masks.

Lately I have been having many more vivid dreams and remembering dreams I had from years ago. I think that this is partly due to the fact that my brain has a lot more time to wander than it did before I was in quarantine. Since I have been in quarantine the only environments I have been in are my house and the parts of my neighborhood that my family and I usually walk in. I think that the lack of new environmental stimulation has resulted in my brain delving into old memories and dreams to visualize different environments. The most recent dream I have remembered from the past was from at least a year ago. It was loosely about me going to a family member’s house for vacation, and the house had a trampoline that could make me bounce up two stories high. Usually my dreams are weird and unrealistic, but this one especially was. Another dream I recently had was extremely vivid. What I mean by this was that it felt as if I was fully there, rather than only partially. What I remember from this particular dream was that I was outside and it was pouring rain, and I was extremely cold because I had been in the rain for awhile. I had dropped something and then it got lost because it was difficult for me to see in the rain. Also at some point in the dream someone needed my help with finding something, and by the time I finished helping them I woke up. I look at myself as fortunate to be able to frequently have dreams when I sleep, and for the most part remember them. I think that dreaming has allowed me to still maintain a sense of freedom despite being stuck at home.

Since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic both of my parents have been taking extra precautions to ensure the safety of my family. My parents are both doctors, so they are on the frontlines of the pandemic. My mom works in numerous nursing homes throughout south Florida, so she has to travel a lot from one facility to the next. My dad is a pulmonary specialist, meaning that he specializes in the respiratory system, the main area the coronavirus attacks. He also works in the ICU (intensive care unit) at Cleveland Clinic. Due to their high risk of exposure to the coronavirus, my parents always take the necessary precautions when coming home to ensure that no one in the house is exposed. Usually their daily routine from coming home from work during these times is to immediately change their clothes and take a shower. Since the laundry room in our house is right next to the entrance to the garage they always have an extra pair of clothes to change into stored in the laundry room as soon as each of them get home, so they do not bring in anything that they could have been exposed to in the house.
