1/1 The missing piece

The work is an allegory. It tells the story from the perspective of the missing piece. A missing piece (wedge) goes in search of a circle that is missing it, so that they could roll together. The missing piece feels that finding its Circle will make it happy.

First the missing piece finds no matching parts, the ones coming around are either not circles or have too many, too small, too few or fully occupied openings.

I think it means money. Someone needs money and others have too much.

The missing piece tries to make itself more attractive, grows flowers, advertises itself with neon signs, everyhing.

When you go on a first date and make your hair and makeup and buy a very beautiful dress but you scare away the others with your flashy look.

It eventually finds a circle with an opening, to which the missing piece fits perfectly. They do roll together, everything seems to be OK, but after a while the missing piece starts to grow. They can’t roll together anymore. The circle wants its own, non-growing missing piece, rolls away and leaves our missing piece in sad loneliness.

It could mean that when you find your partner, marry each other but after some time you broke up. You find your partner but you start to change. In my opinion it is natural. Your look and your attitude. And the other one does not like your new style and leaveS you alone.

As a reminder, the best relationships doesn’t complete us but let us grow and become more fully ourselves.

The missing piece does meet a full circle, the big O. The conversation between them is rather interesting as the missing piece / WANTS BADLY to be part of the big O, but the circle being whole by itself does not need the missing piece at all. The big O gives a very good guidance to the missing piece: it shall try to roll on its own!

The missing piece does not believe THAT it is possible, because it has corners, but the big O explains that corners can wear off, things can be changed. Having said that, the big O rolls away.

The missing piece sits in total passivity and self-pity for a while, but later it starts MOVING and flapping, LIFTS, PULLS and THEN FLAPS again. And indeed, its corners start slowly TO wear OFF and the missing piece can roll faster and faster, smoother and smoother. At the end of the transformation it becomes a whole circle and rolls freely on its own.

Meanwhile in motion, the now not missing piece but rather a little O bumps into the big O. They do roll together in harmony as two full shapes not because of the need for each other but because of their free will.

VERY NICE, KAMILLA! YOU CAN SHARE WITH THE OTHER ONES...

1/2 why do we love
romantic love can be heart breaking and soul-crushing.

if romantic love has a purpose science and psychology has not discovered yet.

some philosophers have put forward some intriguing theories.

love makes us hole again. that’s what Plato said.

we love to become complete.

2/1 life and work of Edgar
Edgar Allan Poe

He was born in Boston 1809 as Edgar Poe. He died in Baltimore at the age of 40. His parents died when he was yet a little boy, John and Frances Allan raised him, thus he got Allan as a second family name. He studied for a year at the University of Virginia and also tried a military career at the West Point, neither attempt was really successful.

His first piece of work Tamerlane and Other Poems was released in 1827. He wanted to make a living from writing only, he wrote in magazines, literature journals. He had a characteristic style of criticism. He travelled a lot among the main cities of the East. His marriage is strange, in 1835 he married his own cousin, who was only 13, half of the age of him. Even though Poe worked a lot, they could never get out of financial problems. When his wife died, Poe went through tough times. He wanted to marry a poetess Sarah Helen Whitman, than lived for a while with Sarah Emilia Royster, his childhood love.

Poe’s death is as strange as his life. He was found on a street of Baltimore. He was hospitalized, but died four days after without having a chance to explain what happened. Some say it was alcofol or drugs, some say it was a brain collapse which killed him.

His works are mostly characterized by the gothic style, especially the dark side of it. The death, the burial, the mourning are repeatedly portrayed in his creations. He wrote horror stories, satiric pieces and fictive reports. He is considered to be the inventor of the detective story genre. His figure C. Auguste Dupin is the baseline of almost all detectives in the world literature.

He has also influenced the science fiction genre. He wrote about the hot-air balloon, which was a big technical adventure at his time. Great writers such as H.G. Wells and Jules Verne noted him with appreciation.

Edgar Allan Poe’s pieces not only influenced the literature, but also music, film, fiction.

2/2 black cat

At the beginning the author was a calm and gentle person. He had pets that he loved and cared, has married to a woman who also liked pets. But the man started to drink heavily, yelled her wife and hurt the animals. One night his cat scratched his hand, he took a knife and cut out the cat’s eye. Pluto cat survived, but later he hung it on a tree in the garden. That night the house burned down and on the wall there was a huge spot, shaped like a cat with a rope around the neck.

The man kept drinking. When he was at a bar he saw a cat looking like Pluto, but this cat had a gallows shaped white spot on the fur. The cat followed him home, but he soon began to hate this cat too, because the cat liked the man’s wife better, but followed the man everywhere as a reminder about the previous cat.

One day the married couple went into the basement. The cat followed them and almost tripped the man. He got mad, picked up an axe and wanted to hit the cat. His wife stopped the axe, but the man got mad and killed her.

He did hide the dead body of his wife inside the cellar wall, and at the same time the cat disappeared too. After several days, when the police came and searched the house for the wife, they went to the cellar too. The man knocked the cellar wall and said: “Gentlemen, this is a very well constructed house.” A loud noise came out of the wall. The policemen destroyed the wall and found the body of the wife and the cat that did hide with the wife’s body and made the noise.

2/3 my presentation the raven poem
The poem I have presented is The Raven. It was written by E.A.Poe. The poem is about a man who has lost his lover.

The poem is depressing because it is about death and loneliness.

the story begins whit some strange noise witch comes first from the door, then from the window. The man opens the window to check the noise, and a black raven flies into his room.

The man starts to speak to the raven and he believes that the bird is Lenore, his dead lover. Whatever the man asks, the bird always says: nevermore. The situation is frustrating; the man gets crazy, thinks the bird is from the hell and does not want the bird to stay in his house. But the bird is staying and he never leaves the soul of the man.

it makes me sad. he lost Lenore and do not know what to do with his life. I think the bird was not real and he spoke to himself.

5 major religion

3/1
Judaism is the oldest monotheistic religion. It was founded in Mesopotamia by the leader Abraham. Jerusalem is the holy city of this religion. It has also the smallest number of followers, around 14 million worldwide. Jewish people were called Hebrews or Israelite. Abraham was the father of all Jewish people and Torah is the Holy Book where you can find the story of Abraham. The first Torah was written with black fire on white fire. Christians call this Book the Old Testament. Moses is the most important person in Judaism, he freed the Jews from slavery in Egypt. He has led his nation through the Sinai Peninsula and transferred them the Ten Commandments, what he received directly from God when he climbed Mount Sinai. These Ten Commandments have been providing the most important instructions for Jewish people on how to live their lives. Another book called the Talmud explains the Torah, summarizes the Jewish tradition and provides instructions on how to follow Jewish teachings.

3/2
christianity

It is the largest religion in the world with about 2.2 billion followers. Christians believe that there is only one God, whom they call Father. The religion is based on the life and teachings of Jesus of Nazareth. His and his followers’ life are written about in the New Testament, which is part of the Bible. Christians recognize Jesus as the Son of God who was sent to save mankind from death and sin. He was born as the son of the Holy Spirit and Virgin Mary. Jesus was teaching the love of God and love of one’s neighbour. He was crucified by the order of Pontius Pilatus but he resurrected three days after his death. After the death of Jesus the number of his followers started to increase rapidly. His followers built up a today very large organisation the Christian Church. Although it has many forms and branches, they share the basic beliefs about the birth, the life and the death of Jesus. Thus the three main Christian celebrations are Christmas about the birth, Whitsun about the Church and Easter about the death and resurrection.

3/3 Hinduism
This is the 3rd largest religion in the word and the oldest one. Hinduism is an Indian religion, or a way of life. This polytheistic religion was located in India and South-East Asia and now you can find at the shame place. There are three main gods: Brahma, the creator; Siva, the destroyer and Vishnu, the preserver. They believe in reincarnation that means after you die, you reborn into this word again. If you make good or bad things in your life you will reincarnate into a better or a worse life. Karma is the central part of the religion, this word covers the infinite number of causes and effects defining all things happening. Hindu priests do not want to convince anyone to become a Hindu, even if you wanted to the answer is no. You can only follow this religion if you born into it.

I have chosen Life Below Water because· My sister made a poster on a similar topic and I liked it very much.· My classmate’s father who works as a scuba diver showed us a great presentation with shocking pictures about the trash they had found in the sea.· I also have a personal experience: WHEN WE WERE ON A HOLOIDAY IN GREECE I found a beach umbrella under the water. It was unbeliavable. The four main problems I think is the most urgent to deal with are:Pollution:- non-degrading plastic in the water, - air pollution as the temperature risesSoulless robbery: We throw back the sharks after we cut down its valuable fin and throw back its body.Morality: The underwater animals are living creatures too. we have to care about them as well.Responsibility for the planet: 71% of earth is covered by water. We can’t live without water.Solutions for these big problems are technically possible, but in most of the cases these technologies are expensive. The best thing would be if clean, living water full of various living creatures was valued more than money. In the meantime my advice and topic for collaboration would be:We should recycle all plastics we use. We should improve the safety of the oil drilling and oil transportation. My questions :What can we do to recycle more effectively? In Hungary most of the villages and many cities have no recycling facilities.
