There is a moral argument for keeping great apes in zoo". So it is necessary for the apes to be in the Zoos to be protected and have a habitat to live in.  And although some Zoos are not great and do treat their animals poorly, most zoos have spacious and great enclosures for the apes as well as structures to play on so they will not get bored.  Zoos also help to continue to breed and keep alive unique and endangered species.  There are pros and cons to both testing on primates and keeping them in captivity, but I believe that both are done for the great or good of humans and primates.
