Rye marveled at this new world in which she was immersed. She witnessed people talking, many in different languages, some completely alien to her. In fact, some of the people looked completely alien. She saw a teenage boy with horns and what appeared to be a tail. Not watching where he was going, he bumped into her.

The boy apologized for his clumsiness, and introduced himself as Diavalo. The space port was busy with fellow travelers, and he asked Rye if she needed any assistance finding her destination. Rye was overcome with a new hope having escaped the dystopian Hell she was imprisoned in. Her elation was quickly replaced with envy and rage. Surrounding her were brightly colored and animated glyphs and symbols. All of which she could not comprehend. She seethed as this boy Diavalo made quick work of interpreting their meanings and was explaining the various destinations.

Rye experienced a small comfort knowing she would again be able to openly communicate with others, but found her place in this new world to be humble and meaningless. Her memory was as Swiss cheesed as Dr. Sam Beckett's. She would never be able to comprehend written language, forever illiterate. As Diavalo walked her towards the local constabulary, her heart sank. Would she ever regain purpose or hope in a world where her skills were so apparently obsolete? She was without family or home, that was nothing new. But what the virus robbed her of could never be replaced. She could communicate openly, sure. But what she feared most was that she would never be really understood, and have nothing to offer.

Her only hope was that this other world had powerful enough medicines to possibly reverse that irreparable damage to her brain.

Rydra Wong found herself seated on the public transport. Her environs were strange and instantly discomforting. A quick assessment and she knew at once by all of the muscle twitches and micro-gestures that people here had lost the ability to communicate through speech.

The hostility within the bus quickly erupted into violence, of which Rydra was ill-prepared. She had seen the incident break out before the others, her keen intuition had been telegraphed the intent of those involved in the quarrel. Though she had the ability to read these people's minds, see their inherent frustrations, she could not dissuade the pair from the conflict.

As the fight ensued, Rydra was pushed by the other occupants from the bus. Their caws and cackles sounded like a babble of baboons to Rydra. It was at this point that the bearded man arrived. Unlike the others, the bearded man telegraphed a comprehension that was readily obvious to Rydra. He motioned to her to get away from the bus as he lobbed a small can of tear gas inside. When he motioned for her to follow, Rydra made no mistake in hanging around that scene longer than necessary. She could tell by every gesture, every inch of his being, that this man posed no threat to her safety. Once in the car, Rydra tried speaking to him, but it was made clear through his imitations that he was incapable of producing or understanding speech. Rydra pondered this new world in which she found herself. Though her gifts would certainly help her navigate this treacherous dystopia, her hardest task would be to communicate her thoughts to a people slowly losing their minds.
