The risk was small, and the returns were fairly quick. Granted a charter by King James I in 1606, the Virginia <strong><em>Company</em></strong> was a <strong><em>joint</em></strong>-<strong><em>stock company</em></strong> created to establish settlements in the New <strong><em>World</em></strong>.</div>]]></description>
