Life before the internet required a lot more input from people in terms of socializing. People needed to plan ahead for things and plan meticulously especially since last minute changes were made in plans with others could and often would disrupt plans entirely. This in addition to the fact that a lot of things were physical materials that needed to be there with you in order to use them.

Reflection:

Life before the internet, specifically in the 60s and 70s was different from life now. With all things having to be done in person. This often led to a lot of setbacks and distractions. But is fondly remembered as a better time

Before the internet, culture was exchanged and observed through trading, though it was expensive, war and eventually international expositions. While they were great ways for cultures and ideas to be exchanged they were often derogatory of their depictions of non- western cultures.

Reflection:

This makes me think a lot of how interconnected the globe is nowadays. With culture being spread and consumed at a rapid rate. Things I eat and watch are usually foreign, a concept that would have been reserved for the rich and powerful.

This article dives into the topic of the transfer of news in the pre internet and mostly early industrial age. It talks about how presidents would die, and how the news would be dispersed a couple days later. Up to a week in some examples. It also talks about things like the telegraph, Baud, a digital telegraph machine, and the dataphone. Mainly for the telegraph, a relatively slow, but world changing technology that vastly improved communications.

Reflection:

The world before the television and the internet really seemed a lot smaller. Things took a long time to actually be shared. Nowadays, things take a really short amount of time to actually get on the global news, with disasters, wars and all kinds of global news being ready and available for our consumption.

Pre internet education is something that can be traced back to the early 70s, as the internet was "started" on October 29th, 1969. It talks about how students were limited in options for schooling and education. You can now just find education material online legally or through piracy. Sources to learn are readily available for everyone.

Reflection:

As a student myself, I usually wonder how I would have faired without the internet. A lot of the resources available to me, Including my major would have been completely alien almost 6 decades ago. Even at its start it was used as an aid for expression, education and exchange.

Before the internet was widely used, games and software were risky purchases due to the fact that they could be broken on arrival or buggy. This mean that companies would have to re-release multiple times in order to get the product as stable as possible

Reflection:

This makes me think a lot about how easy it is to update games and my different softwares today. I can just press a button, assuming I have connectivity. And my software is right there waiting for me. Of course, there still are re-releases, but that is a lot less prevalent in the wake of patches and fixes.

This article delves into the topic of hobbyists and what they did for their leisure time before the internet. Hobbies including stamp collection, modelling buildings, and bird watching, along with a host of other thing.

Reflection:

While I do indeed read books and do things outside of the internet. This does make me think about how a lot of the things I do take place on the internet. And while I am aware that hobbyists still exist outside of the internet, The internet has also allowed people to pick up hobbies and connect with others miles away. Connections that would have never happened without the internet

This article discusses how different traveling was before the internet. Talking about how maps and guidebooks were absolutely necessary. It also discusses how travel agencies were crucial.

Reflection:

This makes me think about how much of a hard time I probably would have had back then. Its hard enough trying to make an exit in the right lane but having to rely on a static map to direct you places would be pretty difficult. More than that however, the internet has made travelling the world a much better and easier thing to do. Without having to rely on expesive guides, people can now simply go on an adventure wherever in the world and can do it safely.

This article talks about how different the job hunt was back then versus today. Dressing appropriately and formally was almost always a requirement. There were job advertisements in the newspaper. People had to rely on actually knowing the person through networking and phone calls.

Reflection:

Job searching today is generally a lot worse in this day and age. With a lot of jobs being generally fake and or spam in nature. With the odds of actually getting a job low to none. Even if you network and actually meet with the people who actually do the hiring process.
