The program includes workshops on a wide range of issues related to teaching and academic careers, lunchtime discussions with distinguished teachers, and a teaching observation. It culminates with preparing an original course syllabus and a statement of teaching philosophy, which is increasingly important in academic job searches. There is no specific time limit to complete the program as long as you finish before your program of study or postdoctoral position has concluded. Typically participants take 2-4 semesters to complete their Teaching Transcript work. 

The Teaching Development Fellows Network (TDFN) is a professional development and leadership opportunity for graduate students who are interested in improving their teaching while promoting pedagogical development and discussion among their peers. Fellows organize and direct department-based events. They also develop resources aimed at developing TA’s teaching skills in their home department with support from TLL and an interdisciplinary network of fellows.

1. Departmental Focus: Teaching Development Fellows address specific teaching needs within their departments by identifying and designing suitable programming.

2. Project Design: Each semester, fellows complete two departmental projects, which may include workshops on pedagogical concepts, training for new TAs, or events that promote collaborative teaching cultures.

3. Additional Training: Fellows receive further training from TLL on workshop design and the scholarship of teaching and learning by enrolling in a 2-credit course during the fall and spring semesters.

4. Collaboration Opportunities: They can collaborate with peers across the Institute, assist in TA Days programming, meet regularly to discuss teaching topics, and observe fellow programs.

5. Time Commitment and Support: Fellows are expected to dedicate 8-10 hours per month from August to May, receiving a stipend of $2,100 from their departments, with additional positions available through TLL.

Certificate of Practice

Provide knowledge of teaching pedagogy and best practices to participants and help them apply their knowledge to their own teaching experiences with regular support and feedback from CPET and CTLO staff

The Teaching Assistant School provides two categories of courses: teaching courses and resource production courses. The teaching courses are mainly intended to help teaching assistants master relevant teaching methods and skills, while resource production courses focus on improving their media design and development capabilities. Teaching assistants who have completed the relevant courses may obtain a certificate of completion from the Teaching Assistant School.
