Janie plays checkers with him and they continue to flirt. By the end of the night Tea Cake helps her close up and walks her to her front porch and bids her goodnight.

Hezekiah tells Janie that Tea Cake is too low for her because he doesn't make a lot of money. Tea cake ends up going to Janies for dinner to eat the fish that they had caught, she fell asleep in Tea Cakes lap and she woke up to him drushing her hair and picking out the dandruff.
