For Strand A, grades K-2, I could assign a Web Quest for my students. The topic could perhaps be exploring internet search engines and specific assigned websites, where they can report their findings in Microsoft Word. That way they will be learning more about how to use both the internet AND Microsoft Word--two programs that they will be using forever.

For Strand C, I would like to engage my students in online pen pals from across the globe. We had hand written pen pals in second and third grade, and it was something I really enjoyed. However, the times are changing and it is very possible to do emails or even video chat calls with other students their age from all around the world. The students can converse about issues that are facing their country/state/city/town, and come up with ways they can make a difference in their community. They will learn about different cultures while building social skills and learning about global issues.

Students in grade 12 who have a college in mind can even write about their experiences and what they want to major in for other students to look at and relate to. I would give them a list of different sites to use to make a blog/website. They should use pictures, graphics, different texts, video links, etc. They can make it relatable and fun, but also should consider a professional site for colleges or for future employment. I think students would really enjoy this.

The object can range anywhere from their favorite stuffed animal to their favorite place to be. When I was in second grade we wrote our own books and I think it would be a great idea for the kids to still experience. I would have them start by handwriting their story. Then we would have them type it up and include pictures they can find on the internet, take their own pictures, or draw their pictures and scan them onto the document on the computer for their illustrations. At the end, we would publish their books on a website as an e-book so they can share it with their family and friends all over the world. They could even record themselves reading their story.

I could maybe also change the author to a scientist depending on the subject. In the graphic organizer I would provide a layout in each square that has a line for a summary sentence, then a line for a quote with quotation marks surrounding it and then leave space at the bottom for them to put their sources. This allows them to recognize their ideas from others, the need to quote the ideas of others and also the difference and importance of print vs. non-print. More so, they begin understanding how to conduct research on a topic and get to collaborate with their classmates.

For grades K-2, I would ask the children to create a map of the school. I will tell them we need the map to work on an important project. We will start by taking a tour inside and outside of the school. Each child will be provided their own clipboard to and possibly a map of the school itself and be told to label or draw on the map as we walk. Once we return to the classroom the students will be assigned to small groups or work as a group as whole to develop a map collectively in relation with what they drew on our tour. Once each group or the group has developed the map I will tell them the special project. One example, is telling them I want to make a garden for our school. I will ask them where we can put it and ask them to work together to draw a design for the garden.

This could be changed in many ways to incorporate technology. Depending on the school one incorporation of technology could be having the students use Ipads to take photos while we tour the school. Depending on the topic and when it is revealed, the students could also interview and record students and staff from the school to help with their project. Another way to incorporate technology would be having them research information when creating their design at the end of the tour.

For strand C, Grades 9-12, using Google Docs to create a project is a great way to communicate with classmates. In a class of twenty students, I would make 5 groups of 4 students and assign each of the groups a different writing prompt. Each prompt will contain the same guidelines (the document will be no longer than 5 pages, each student will have to write at least a page worth of writing, and the story will have to follow your specific prompt) but each prompt will have a different plot line. The students, a collaborative group will be able to write their parts on the collective Google Doc, and there will have to be comments from each student. I think this assignment will be a good way for the students to work together, create comments about each person’s part, and not really have to meet in person if it is not a possibility.

Students would work with their group to sort their data in excel. Using excel, they would need to generate a graph. They will also need to answer questions based on the data such as averages, medians, range. At the end, I would also have reflection questions about using this type of software.

One activity that I would do in a Pre K classroom could be that in the begging of the school year when you are introducing centers and some might have like a technology center or being able to earn computer or tablet time. Before you let this happen as a teacher I would take a day or 2 to make sure we go over all the parts and label the parts as a class so they become familiar with the terminology and can be able to utilize this terminology in their everyday conversations.

For this as a kindergarten teacher and maybe even older just creating your very own classroom instagram or facebook page and following parents, having other classrooms join in and being able to show the students the interaction you can have over social media and all the other tools and stuff that you can do together as a class and even with people that are not at the same school as you. As a teacher I would reach out to other teachers that I know and other districts and get them to join our project to make it even that much cooler to show that it can go outside of your own school.

The standard states, " Apply digital tools to collect, organize, and analyze data that support a scientific finding." One activity could be having students complete an activity that documents the life cycles of plants and/or animals and then compare each of the examples given. For example, humans grow through the stages of childhood, adolescence, and then adulthood where they remain until death. Insects such as butterflies start as caterpillars and go through a process called metamorphosis to become a butterfly until death.

8.1.12.C.1
In conjunction with strand C for classes of 9-12 grade, I would focus on the standard: 8.1.12.C.1 which states, "Develop an innovative solution to a real world problem or issue in collaboration with peers and experts, and present ideas for feedback through social media or in an online community." I would love to incorporate the ability of speaking to other classrooms around the globe about common or major issues specific to that region. Being that I am studying to be a Spanish language teacher, I feel as if it would be a great outlet for students to practice their language skills, while also attaining knowledge about real life issues in another country. I actually participated in a similar activity to this in my high school Spanish classes, where we as a class would have the opportunity to research the country that was chosen for us, and we would then present our research and findings to a classroom in another country; for me it was Mexico. Students will be able to use the target language, even if it is limited, to really connect with the other culture and discuss these important topics. It is a great demonstration and learning tool to receive information first hand from students-alike, especially in another cultural atmosphere.

8.1.12.E.1
In conjunction with the standard 8.1.12.E.1, which states, "Produce a position statement about a real world problem by developing a systematic plan of investigation with peers and experts synthesizing information from multiple sources," I would like to produce a lesson about the different ways of learning a language through the use of different technology mediums. We live in an era with widely open access to technology and learning languages has become a lot easier due to many outlets of learning having been created. While textbooks do help in a sense, we now have the power to communicate and utilize online programs and study tools that help to train our minds and progress us further to fluency. I would have students do a research project where they would have to research the world issues that are experienced when learning a language; discussing how some mediums work better than others, other resources might focus on grammar and culture while others might focus on vocabulary and speaking etc. I would then have students present their findings to the class, enlightening us on the issues that are faced in this day in age when learning a language. I would then have them present their synthesized information from credible sources and what they have to say, teaching us about the best methods to learn a language while also being aware of the issues that we could face in the process.
