For example, when Marjane was buying blackmarket CDs to listen to her favourite music. The CDs were very expensive, and Marjane was taking a big risk in buying them, however I think it was worth it because it was like Marjane buying a small piece of freedom and childhood.

Another example is when Marjane was in the car with friends, and one of her friends took off her veil. She went from living with her family and relying on them for everything to suddenly not only living on her own but also in an entirely different country. She had to very quickly learn to do everything on her own, such as shopping and cooking. She also had to learn how to live with complete strangers who, on multiple occasions did not even speak the same language/s as her.
