3 Biggies –

1. Digital Natives- Todays younger generation is known as digital natives. They are from a generation that has grown up with technology in their daily lives all the time. Computers, iPad’s, and videogames are all examples of what todays younger generation are used too.

2. Digital Immigrants- An older generation that did not grow up with technology and are learning how to use it this day in age. Learning how to adapt their everyday lives to technology and the new digital age.

3. Today’s college grads have only read 5,000 hours in their lives while they have played 10,000 hours of video games.

Two Different Sides

Digital Immigrant teachers do not think that their students can learn while listening to music or even watching tv, while there are Digital Native teachers who think otherwise. Digital Immigrant teachers get this presumption and feel this way because they themselves aren’t able to learn or multitask in this way. While there are Digital Native teachers who can do this type of multi-tasking because it is what they are used too. It is part of their everyday life. However sometimes even for the digital natives having music on while learning may be too much of a distraction for some. It really just depends on the person themselves and their preference.

Question

How can we close the gap or difference between digital native and digital immigrants?
