Franz- Old man who used to be a drunk due to his wife and child dying, very religious 
Franz asks if he could adopt McCandless, but he avoids the situation.
McCandless writes to Franz to tell him he should become a nomad, and he does what he tells him. 
When Franz learned that McCandless died in Alaska, he resorted back to his drunken days and becomes an atheist
