For example, Yoseb did not allow Kyunghee to work outside, believing that women should not work as this is meant to be men's responsibility. It clearly differentiates male and female.

With a quote from the reading, '...second, that the world's "inferior races" posed a threat (particularly because of their fertility) to the future of the imperial races of Europe.' Sunja does not want to settle into being Hansu's lover, and acts as a representation of the counter force to a long history of male domination in the choices couples make on sexuality. Week's article mentioned how female sexuality has been  subsidiary to the male ones.
