Mr. Newberry wasn't thinking much about what options they had. He wanted to go to the weapons room but didn't even consider giving some Ameiphus and something else valuable, but Hope's dad considered that an option. Mr. Newberry also didn't consider the people dying by the bandits, and with the Ameiphus not being ready, many people would die from the gunshots.

Brock cared for Hope and her dad because he asked them if they were okay from the bandit's attack. Hope was traumatized and her dad was hurt by a gunshot to the leg physically.
