My educational journey has not been easy, it has been a journey of up and downs, the point is to not give up when it gets harder, but to continue the journey and to not give up. The more we learn the more we can pass onto our students and contribute to their success. When it comes to technology I knew enough to just get by, but I still find it a little challenging. I believe that a blended classroom is the best option when it comes to learning. Teachers need to learn how to use technology and the tools that it provides so that we can continue to provide the best learning experience for our students, if we continue to try to teach in the “Old ways” before Covid we are keeping our students in the past with us instead of giving the best opportunities for their own future which will be technology heavy. We must evolve and grow and the use of technology in a classroom is the new future whether we like it or not.

The various forms of technology and how we can use them in improve and enhance the way we teach, and the way that students learn are Goggle Classroom, Microsoft Teams, I-Ready, Thinklink, Youtube, laptops, these are just a few technologies that are used in a classroom. I use almost regularly as a substitute teacher Microsoft teams, which can be used in a blended or virtual classroom, the students are able to login from the school district website and click on the class they are in, and they are able to see the assignments and videos that the teacher has posted. I also have used I-Ready though mostly in an elementary school setting, which helps the students with reading which is great for those students that are ELL or students with disabilities, it can help them with reading which Social Studies is heavy in. I have also used digital and audio books in the Social Studies classes that I have long termed subbed for and will use in the future. I like to mix old school and new school in the classrooms I long term sub for because both have their merits, and both help the students with learning the old way and the new way. I also use Microsoft Word and Power Point in the classes I long term sub for, because it makes the students more engaged and wanting to learn. When I first learned how to do these technologies and tools it was a little hard because as a sub you have to first have access to the programs, and secondly they don’t teach you how to use them, but once I first learned how to use them after that first day, I have started to use them consecutively and I feel comfortable in using them.

Technology integration has impacted the way I teach and how the students learn in the classes I long term sub for. The school district I work for has started to teach subs on how to use the technology that they want to be used in the classroom. I can customize every lesson that I plan to use to help include students such as ELL, students with disabilities, and those students who are gifted and talented. I can slow things down, or speed things up when needed and depending on the learning level of each of the students in the classroom, I am able to assign more challenging for those students that want more challenging work.

I would say that my skill set at the beginning of this course was about normal. I have learned how to use the basic technology that the schools wanted me to use and if I used technology that I had no idea how to use, I would still use it but wasn’t as comfortable with it. After this course I have learned more about what kind of technology I can use in the classroom and am more willing to explore those opportunities.

My future goals and professional growth when it comes to incorporating technology into my teaching now and in the future is to continue to use technology as it comes, to learn as much as possible and to pass this knowledge to my students.
