Many of them escaped in hid in the forest where they continued to pray to Mary for help and protection. When the persecution started in 1798, Our Lady LaVang appeared to the group of people in the forest. She protected them, taught them how to make medicine and how to look after themselves. Mary did this throughout all the years of the persecution period. A small chapel was built and many people constantly go there to receive blessings.
