Situational irony is when you don't expect something. Verbal irony is like calling someone smart when they have bad grades.

I learned that there are three types of irony. dramatic is when we know something that the reader doesn't. verbal is when you mean the opposite of what you are saying. sutiuational is when something totally different happens than what we expected.
