“Endorsing Universal Design for Learning instructional strategies so all students have opportunities for learning through differentiated content, processes, and product.”

I chose this quote because I believe it demonstrates the multi-tiered system of support’s emphasis on supporting ALL students. By endorsing UDL every student has the opportunity to learn in a way that works best for them. By using a variety of instructional strategies to differentiate content, processes, and products students will have the opportunity to perform successful in the least restrictive environment alongside all of their classmates. I believe a safe, healthy, and equitable learning environment is one of the most important things a teacher can provide for their students that is why this quote stood out to me so much. The MTSS provides all students with access to this opportunity.

“Supporting high-quality standards and research-based, culturally and linguistically relevant instruction with the belief that every student can learn including students of poverty, students with disabilities, English learners, and students from all ethnicities evident in the school and district cultures.“

High quality standards are important for every student, regardless of where they come from. By supporting all learners, from every background, students are going to have the best chance at a becoming successful. It is important to include culturally and linguistically relevant instruction that will relate to all students. If a student can relate to the material being taught, they will build real life connections that will help them retain the information. As a 21st century teacher, it is important to look for new methods of teaching that will provide all students with quality instruction while supporting students, because everyone is capable of learning.

Melanie’s Quote

“Using schoolwide and classroom research-based positive behavioral supports for achieving important social and learning outcomes.”

Right of the top I liked this step because it uses the word schoolwide. Meaning that as a group, the “whole” school will work together to give all students what they need. In this response to intervention it is important that teachers are working together as one in achieving positive social and learning outcomes for the whole school. It would be detrimental to a school system if only a few teachers were on board and were constantly struggling with positive behavioral supports from those who didn’t wish to participate.

An added bonus is that they will use research-based strategies that have been tested and proven to work before. When teachers and staff are using the same methods and strategies, that have been tested before, they will have assurance that what they use will have the greatest percentage of effectiveness. The most important thing for students in school is that they are cared for and that teachers want what is best for each and everyone of them. Learning in the classroom can happen when behavior is positive and controlled so that there are minimal distractions.
