Rwandans were not very happy about this so they over through the Belgium government . In 1961 Rwanda became a independent country but Belgium was not done yet. Belgium decided to leave the Hutu's with all the power when they left and made a new president that was Hutu. This already started violence. Since Hutu's had all the control they started to discriminate and beat up the Tutsi's. On April 6th, 1994 the presidents airplane was shot out of the air with him inside it. This caused a lot of controversy. Because the Hutu's had more power they blamed it all on the Tutsi's and that is how all of it began. The Hutu's started killing the Tutsi's. They set up roadblocks so no one could escape and they started invading homes. One by one whole families were killed with children inside. Even if you were not a Tutsi and someone suspected you to be one you would be killed on the spot. 200,000 people participated in the killing of Tutsi's. Even if you did not want to participate Hutu's were forced to kill there neighbors if they were Tutsi's. The Tutsis were blamed for the Rwanda's social, economic and political problems. The tutsis were also accused of supporting a rebel group called Rwandan Patriotic Front. The hutus would go into homes and kill families, teachers would kill students who they knew were tutsi and students would kill teachers who were tutsi, people would kill their neighbors if they were tutsi because they were brainwashed by what the hutus believed.
