The process of focused note-taking counteracts the curve of forgetting because it provides a system of organizing one's thoughts. It allows students to review past material while adding new information to increase comprehension.

The process of focused note-taking counteracts the curve of forgetting by providing a specific structure on which to hang the information. Dividing the notes into sections for what we already know about the topic and what we are learning about the topic removes the need to use mental energy on the HOW to write the notes, allowing more energy for the learning. Reviewing the notes immediately after taking them provides greater organization and clarity, as well as reinforcing the learning.
