Please note with the way I have chosen to set up my resume, I wouldn't normally send a cover letter, for jobs that do require this I would create a very job specific title and possibly a toned down version for more corporate jobs vs a music industry job.

My CV is set up to be a one sheet with all of the available information. From talking with hiring managers at my current place of employment, I have found that they often sort through so many resumes, that they don't look past one sheet of info anyway. Setting it up in this way allows for all of the information to be accessed if they decide to bring me to the next step of the hiring process.

In the US its best not to use a photo anywhere on your resume, as newer anti-discrimination laws have caused some businesses to throw out resumes with photos, so they can more easily deny race and physical appearance had any impact on whether or not they hired you.
With this decision though, you lose out on the benefits of having a photo on your resume as it does help your resume stand out from the rest.
I countered this with a bright teal colour and a logo that also matches my overarching YouTube Career as well. This helps my resume stand out and for many of the marketing jobs I am applying for it shows an awareness of branding that goes on throughout my cover letter, CV, and socials.

Link to page below -

I have been able to grow my Instagram page to 750 followers. I was able to gain the bulk of these subscribers in one month of consistent uploads and being by being very active on the platform with commenting on different posts. I strategically chose certain hashtags to focus on to build up a following that is actually relevant, rather than just focusing on the numbers. I also only followed people who were clearly musicians or into music as well so I could avoid falling into the follow for follow trap where you gain numbers but always stay with a completely unengaged following.

At first my ads were not targeted enough, as I learned more about targeting while at my day job, I brought this into my ads. Once I started getting more targeted with my ads, I started seeing a much better ROI where the investment was subscribers gained. Going into the future I want to integrate this more with Google Analytics to better track which ads and videos are bringing in the most subscribers.

Though there are two main reasons this might have happened. One I spent the smallest amount here of any platform I have ran ads, and also there was an issues with reporting on Instagram ads during the time I was actively running them. Though I am not sure what parts it affected, it seemed to not be tracking all stats correctly.

I am still narrowing down our audience, but I was able to do the ad below and get 22 event responses for under 2 dollars. Which is a great ROI, though this doesn't lead to direct sales, the goal of the ad was to make sure a stream event was well attended. In this scenario we were hoping for at least 10 people to attend and with this add, we got 22 sign ups plus regular stream watchers.

With the difference being on average one month apart. (Pastukhov, 2020)
The differences being so small, I am currently leaning towards ASCAP because of a few reasons.
1) The annual conference typically is held in Los Angeles, on the West Coast, compared to BMI being somewhere on the East Coast of the US. Los Angeles is much more accessible because of my location.
2) While it is free to join BMI as a songwriter, it costs 150 to 250 to sign up as a publisher, compared to the 50 dollars fee for both songwriter and publisher with ASCAP. I plan on self publishing music for the foreseeable future so this makes more sense for me currently.

But since 2015, there has been a 18.68% increase in sales of music-related merch (based on data from Forde, 2018 and Chapple, 2019). If this trend continues, merch sales will increasingly become an important part of a musicians income.
I am mixing the music with typical YouTube types of entertainment. YouTuber's have already moved into making more money from merch sales than their actual videos.
I propose this research shows that musicians that follow this trend will be on the right end of the curve, going into the future.

I feel my biggest fault with Twitter stems from my lack of understanding or interest in the platform as a consumer. All of the other social media platforms I was a user before a creator.

I am still unsure how to use the platform in a professional non music sense as I don't want to make it public that I am looking for work, when this could potentially be seen by my current employer and I do not want to jeopardize my job.
So far I have kept it 90 percent music focused to avoid this. I have used to mostly to connect with people in a more professional way then Facebook/Instagram. I definitely feel I am underutilizing the platform and plan to learn more about it as I go forward.

I have learned that one of the most important things about doing digital ads is to have all of your tracking in order. It is important to have clear naming conventions so you know exactly what each ad is for. This is vital when reviewing your ads and determining which ads were doing well so you can replicate your results and refine your work for a better ROI per ad.

I view these as essential for the coming year.
The items marked Medium/High I view as less essential but would be detrimental.
Items marked as medium have much more leeway with their budget amounts.

I also plan to work on building up my skill in video editing so I am ready for any kind of job that comes.
The next step is to start researching potential clients while I continue to skill up.
The next step will be to begin reaching out to those potential clients, and I may also include this service somewhere on my website.
I then am giving myself 2 months to find my first client. The plan after this is to review what went well and what could be better, but the hope is I will continue to grow at this point with more clients or that the first client will be an ongoing job.

This is my most ambitious goal. I feel it is also the hardest to plan out with direct steps, because the biggest part is to release as many high quality videos as I can.
So for this goal I decided to focus more on scheduled check in points. I have implemented a quarterly check in, much like I do at my day marketing day job, I will go over my progress of goals from last quarter and make goals for the next quarter. I have also added a due date for me to finalize at least some of my video ideas for the quarter. I believe this will help keep me organized and with the quarterly review I can better grasp what videos were working and double down on the content that is doing the best.
At the beginning of the year I also put in some time to review the last year's videos so I can focus on improving from last year. I then plan to focus on reaching out for collabs and hopefully securing some ones into the future so I make sure I spend enough time on each one.
I also put a few milestones in for reaching 500 subs and 800 subs on my way to 1000. These are soft goals and movable but will be a good barometer of how close or far off from my goal I am as time goes on.
You can also see that the final goal of 1000 subs also traces down as prerequisite for another milestone. This milestone is the final part of my Patreon Goal, 1000 is a soft target for how big I feel I need to be to launch a Patreon page. This goal will be re-evaluated throughout the year based more on my level of engaged fans rather then the overall subscriber number.

Video work is needed across so many different industries, and is very connected to both of my job paths of music and marketing.

For the last two years I have been working in marketing for a fairly large company. The position has given me experience across a large range of marketing functions from events, strategic planning, promotional items, creative creation, brainstorming sessions, customer service, Facebook ads and much more.
This experience has both informed and been informed by my music career and music related marketing.
The perspective of working in a larger corporate style high pressure environment has been valuable, as I can see how and in what ways a marketing department handles promotion and events, which directly related to things like a musician building a plan to promote their newest single or an upcoming tour and the logistics it takes to run an event as well.
The perspective of being a poor musician has also helped with the ideas I can bring to the table for them as well. This perspective allows me to see how an idea can still be done without funding or way to cut costs.
For example we had a need to fill a few hundred USB drives with a promotional video to give out to partners who were going to play this video in their lobbies. The companies we approached to fill these USB drives were going to charge exorbitant amounts. Instead of allowing this idea to die due to budget concerns, I offered to make them one by one at my desk. This allowed us to see how the idea would work before committing too much money to it. While this wasn't a revolutionary idea, I think it's the perfect example of how the grassroots indie musician mindset can inform the bigger corporate way of marketing.

My plan to launch a Patreon starts off with a lot of brainstorming and research. This is to ensure that once I am ready to launch my Patreon page I will have everything to make sure it is successful.
The first step is to research a bit more about the platform and look at possible alternatives. While Patreon is one of the bigger option there is quite a few different way to get a similar result. Websites like 'Buy Me a Coffee' offer a similar avenue for donations, while streaming sites like Twitch and Facebook gaming have their own paid subscriptions built in. Even YouTube has the option but at a much larger entry point. I can also choose to run my own members website which comes with its own challenges and benefits.
No matter which I decide to go with, the rest of the plan will be able to go along the same path.
The next step is to look at what makes a successful Patreon and other similar setups. I want to do a deep dive into what exactly people like the most and all of the different options I have, so I can pick the ones that most resonate with myself, my brand, and my followers.
My next step is to solidify exactly what kind of perks/tiers that I want to launch with.
There's then an empty amount of time for this project as it relies on building my following on YouTube for this to be viable.
The next step is to then build out my page/website to get it ready to launch when needed. I then plan to launch a demo of it probably for free to a select few fans/friends/family to test out if I giving enough value and get valuable feedback on what's working and what isn't.
The final step is to launch the page and this I am currently linking to getting to 1000 subscribers on YouTube before launching.

I hope to create a unique merch store that people not even interested in my music will have an interest in wearing the designs offered.
The next step will be to design the merch store itself, this includes deciding what platform will the store be held on. It might be its own site or directly connecting my personal site. The size of my following at the time will also determine whether this site will be help on a free platform like my current demo shop on Gumroad, or on a premium website host like Squarespace.
The next step will be to finalize what merch ideas will be ready for launch and to start ordering samples so I can inspect quality and get feedback on how the physical goods look and feel. Then I can make the final decision on what will be available for the merch store launch.
The last step is to actually launch the store, but I have decided that at least for now, I do not plan to launch until at least 800 subscribers.

The first step is to look deeper into what services I could offer as a consultant.
Once I have more of a grasp for what kind of service I want to offer I then have to decide what website host provider I want to go with. This could change based on which one more compliments my chosen services. The two services I anticipate will be front runners are Wix and Squarespace.
The next step will be to start building out the website on my chosen service, while also researching potential clients and where to find clients.
The next step is to launch my website for consultancy work.
I then plan to reach out to potential clients and openly offer free first consults in different markets.
I imagine my main markets will be musicians, and businesses. These two markets will have different budgets and most likely require different services.
At the beginning I will need to balance how much I charge vs the opportunity to gain more experience.
After I get my first client, I plan on reviewing how the experience went and re-evaluating whether this type of work is for me. I will then decide whether I should reallocate time and resources to different areas or continue looking for more clients. This will be a fluid goal and change depending on how well my YouTube channel is going. If my YouTube channel is going well enough that a merch store and Patreon page launch is looking both likely and like it will lead to a promising amount of revenue, I may refocus towards the YouTube project. But if by halfway through next year I haven't gained any traction or I am feeling burnt out by the YouTube project I will double down on the consultancy and video editing work.

I have an account on TakeLessons.com. This website helps connect tutors to students. I haven't had much luck in the 4 years off and on I have been signed up though. This website doesn't appear to get enough interest in my local area and a few teachers seem to get all of the clients for the area. Because of this, I feel my best chance to branch out for lessons, especially during the pandemic, is online. WIth this in mind, I believe that my YouTube channel will ultimately be my best chance for finding interested students. Maybe this will even be included in a Patreon tier in the future.
Taking all this into consideration, I have decided to remake my profile with my new experiences added and with a new focus to online courses.

Hypothetically if you had an Instagram following of around 30,000 followers. You could expect a click-through rate of about 15% assuming you boosted this through a few promos. (Keyes, 2020) Which is about 4,500 followers, you then could expect 1% to 5% would the convert to become a Patron. That is about 45 to 225 people (Keyes, 2020)

This would be significantly affected by what you are offering as well.

If you set up tiers from $1 to $100 you could expect the average to be around the $5 to $10 range. (Keyes, 2020)

Using Damian Keyes data and assumptions you would make around $300 on the low end and $1000 to $1500 on the high end. These are based on average numbers that Damian Keyes has found on Patreon (Keyes, 2020)

Amanda is a good case study, as she doesn't have the largest following outside of Patreon. With 131K Subscribers on YouTube, and 234K followers on Instagram, you wouldn't expect her to be within the top 10 Patreon creators. (Keyes, 2020)

She brings in roughly $40,000 to $50,000 dollars a month from Patreon. (Keyes, 2020)

Looking at her Patreon Page, you can see she has a professional look to her banner page and profile picture. She has given custom names to each tier along with handwritten picture uploaded for each tier level.

She is an example of someone who is a creator first, musician second. Everything she does is part of her art. And she takes that attitude to her Patreon as well.

She starts with a $1 tier, where she immediately goes into detail that even the $1 support is massively valuable, and that their voice is just as important as someone giving $100 a month. She doesn't try to upsell the potential patron at all and just shows them support.

She has a good spread of different tiers, going from the $1 dollar tier to a $250 tier. Notably, the $100 tier, is limited to 30 people and is currently sold out.

One of the things that helps her stand out is that she has taken every opportunity to customize her page that Patreon has given her, from custom tier pictures, to a long description, an intro video, professional banner, linking her socials, and having a goal etc...

Peter is a Musician who focuses on acapella vocal tracks. He currently has 2.46 Million Subscribers.

He is particularly good to study how well he implements his Patreon with his Social Media pages. On his YouTube page, his top page banner is basically an ad for his Patreon page, asking fans to join him at Patreon. This is important as he is taking the call of action pass just putting a link in his description.

His starting tier is $2 and is called the Patreon Hollens Family Tier. This is a great marketing trick, as it says 'you are now part of the family." (Keyes, 2020) Inviting the potential patron into his family and tribe. This tier gets access to the patron-only activity feed. He also offers early access to videos which is one of the most wanted perks on Patreon, and is one of the top ten performing rewards. (Keyes, 2020) He then offers behind the scene photos and 25% off his merchandise, which can easily be worth more than the $2 tier.

The way he set this tier up is notable as, while most people set up their first tier as a simple just support me, with minimal rewards kind of level, he has still included some higher tier rewards in his first level.

This trend continues throughout his Patreon page and he has included all 10 top ten performing rewards on Patreon. (Keyes, 2020)

He has 3,500 patrons currently, which means even if they all took the lowest tier at $2, he is making a minimum of $7,000 a month from Patreon. (Though he probably makes much more based on his following and tiers)

(Keyes, 2020)
They have incremental tiers like the other two case studies, theirs starts at $3. What makes them an interesting case study, is how high they have gone. They offer a $3,000 tier, in which they offer to name one of their studies after the patron for a year. This does a few things, one just by offering it, they have a chance to gain a massive payday from something that will take relatively low effort. Two, they put the rest of their tiers into perspective to potential patrons. As it could entice them to want to learn more about them and why someone would pay $3,000 a month to support them.
The currently have 6,230 Patrons (Keyes, 2020) with a minimum tier level at $3, that means they make at least $18,690 a month from their patrons.

Musician Ben Folds has went in a different direction with Patreon. He offers 1 tier level at $10 dollars. He doesn't utilize all of the different things that Patreon offers, but he has still been able to use his fame, to gain 523 patrons. Damian Keyes argues that this is a case study of what not to do on Patreon, but I think it's an interesting look at another way of using Patreon. With a $10 dollar min tier and 523 Patrons, he is still earning $5,230 a month doing exactly what he wants to focus on. I think this shows that you might make less, but if you have a large enough following Patreon is viable, even if you only focus on what you want to make. (Keyes, 2020)

How much does YouTube pay out directly?

As I was looking deeper into what exactly does YouTube pay for views I found that it seemed like everyone had different answers. It was also hard to research as many creators were vague or didn't share their earnings as all.
I eventually found a video by Shelby Church that shared into how much YouTube actually pays. This video was invaluable as its revealed detailed numbers on how much YouTube paid her per view.

Her conclusion based off her own videos, was YouTube pays about $2,000 for 1,000,000 views. (Church, 2019)

But she shows it's actually a lot more complicated than that, as YouTube pays different rates based on your viewers. Your viewers' nationality has a significant impact on how much you get paid. She talks about CPM, which is how much you get paid per 1,000 views is affected by these factors. She shows in her video that with viewers from India she was paid $1.16 per 1,000 views compared to US Viewers paying $4.08 per 1,000 views.

Other factors are taken into account as well, such as video content, viewer age and more but to a lesser extent.

She goes on to show that the $2,000 per 1,000,000 views isn't a hard rule as she has a video with only 371,000 views that has earned over $3,000 dollars. Showing that the length of your video has a big impact on your pay, specifically watch time of your viewers.

She finished by showing how she has increased her revenue through creating videos that are at least 10 minutes. This is important as because of the longer video time, viewers might watch for longer, and at the 10-minute mark YouTube allows you to add more ads into your video, and therefore you will make more per view. (Church, 2019)

This will be very important for the future, once I get to the point of making money from YouTube Ads, I will be able to optimize my videos to make more revenue.

The amount of pay per view is also invaluable when looking at the possible revenue and ROI of my YouTube channel over time.

This data also further proves that you don't need millions of views per video to make a living on YouTube, even without considering the alternate forms of monetization like a Patreon page and merch store.
