-Why do people lie?

Answer: This can vary depending on the person. For some, their intention is to "protect" the peace of the other party, or to not hurt their feelings. Meanwhile, some do it because they have ulterior motives towards someone or something. Either way, this damages both parties at the end.

-Is it okay to lie and tolerate this kind of behaviour?

Answer: No. One "innocent" white lie will most likely lead to more intense ones. As you get used to this pattern of lying, over time, you'll think it's okay and it's just once, but the more lies you make, the more you'll think it's normal and you won't even notice it's no longer one "innocent" white lie. Although in some situations, maybe at times where you're at risk, it can be quite useful. Like let's say a random stranger asked where do you live or other personal information, lying can then be valid.

For some, lying can sometimes make them feel good but after a while, guilt is always natural to us.

2. I believe that lying is never a good thing whether it is a white lie. A wrong thing can not be measured by how harmful it could be. A wrong thing is wrong no matter how much it affects someone. White lies may be less damaging but it is still misleading for someone. Also, tolerating a wrong act means contributing to it so I don't think it's right.

People tend to lie as they want to avoid the inevitable. They want to hide their true selves as it may affect other people's emotions. People may lie about their emotional well-being by saying that "they're okay" and "they're fine" - when they're truly not. I'd say I'm guilty of this myself - I don't want to be a burden on anyone, so I just try to do everything by myself and never ask for help and say that "I'm fine" even when I'm not. Eventually, people recognized that behavior of mine and they're now persistent in helping.

No. I don't think it's okay to lie - and anyone shouldn't tolerate this behaviour as well. Even though I understand that some lies are being said for the safety of their well-being, it's a band-aid fix, in my opinion.

To end off this note, here's a takeaway lyric from my favorite song, ironically named "True":

"Won't you believe in a future where you can be you?

Won't you believe in a world that knows your reality?

I know all of it feels like a far-off dream but Won't you believe as I believe in you?"
