In her speech Malala Yousafzai uses these rhetorical devices:
Anecdote
Hypophora
Alliteration
and Pathos.

Malala uses anecdote as a way to tell a story that actually happened to compare the past to the much brighter and yet to come future. She says, “The terrorists tried to stop us and attacked me and my friends who are here today, on our school bus in 2012, but neither their bullets nor their ideas could win. We survived. And since that day, our voices have grown louder and louder.”

Malala uses hypophora in her speech by supporting her idea by giving an answer immediately after asking a question. “Why is it that countries which we call strong are so powerful in creating wars but are so weak in bringing peace? Why is it that giving guns is so easy, but building schools is so hard?… Then, in this 21st century, we must be able i give every child quality education.”

Malala uses alliteration to fight for freedom and equality. According to the text, “Let this be the last time we see a child out of school, let this be the last time a girl is forced to early childhood marriage.”

Malala uses pathos in the speech to show her frustration about how woman do not have equal rights to an education. In the speech she states, “I had two options. One was to remain silent and wait to be killed. And the second was to speak up and then be killed. I chose the second one.”

Keaton M, Adam K, Aiden H, Peter K

We chose these rhetorical devices for Malala because it shows that she has emotion in the speech. It also shows that she said “66 million children” with us logos. For ethos she talks about how they use henna for mathematical use on their hands. Lastly alliteration how she uses that is she repeats every other sentence with “Dear sisters and brothers” or “thank you”. That is why we chose these devices and how they are useful for this speech.

Eutrepismus:
Eutrepismus is when the speech is broken up into numbered parts.
Evidence:
In Kim Dae-Jung’s speech he uses this For example, “First, we agreed that unification must be achieved independently and peacefully. Second, we succeeded in bridging the unification formulas of the two sides, which had remained widely divergent. Third, the two sides concurred that the US military presence on the Korean Peninsula should continue for stability on the peninsula and Northeast Asia.” He talks about the accomplishments that happened between south and North Korea.

Rhetorical question:
Rhetorical question is when the speaker asks a question and the answer is obvious. I was just ten that more than 400 schools were destroyed.”

Anaphora:
Anaphora is repeating a phrase at the beginning of clauses.
Evidence:
“I am Malala.
Rhetoric In Malala's speeh

In Malala Yousufzia's Nobel speech, Malala describes the poor state of the global education. She speaks for the millions of girls who have been silenced when asking for information. Malala tells of the run in with the Taliban, and how they crushed her education, but built her fighting spirit. Telling the world about her trials, Malala gives the tools needed to build a community of Hope and intelligence.
Malala's Nobel speech is empowered by multiple rhetoric devices such as:
Charged dictations- "we have already taken many steps. Now it is time to take a leap." A statement such as this implies something past its literal meaning. In this case, it means her movement has already accomplished many things, but plans to do much more.
Astermosis-
"This award is not just for me." This statement implies there is more information to complete it and causes the audience to yearn for the answer. In this situation, it means this award is for the people who suffered or are suffering the way she had suffered.
Anecdote-
"I remember when my friends and I would decorate our hands with henna on special occasions. And instead of drawing flowers in patterns with paint or hands with mathematical formulas and equations." The statement is retelling times with her friends which allows the audience to feel closer to Malala and invested in her story.
Antithesis-
"Malala means grief stricken, sad, but in order to find some happiness to it, my grandfather would always call me 'Malala-the happiest girl in the world.' and today I am very happy that we are together fighting for an important cause." The exit causes the audience of fuel a little sad I'm confused, which makes her description of her feelings towards the fight empathized with the audience.
