Remembering What You Study

This video talks about the best way to remember what you study. I chose this video because I want to use my time more efficiently. If I study for hours, but don't retain any of the information, it is a waste of time. Some advice he gives in the video is to use the Space Repetition method. This is when you space out your study sessions by increased time. For example, you could study 10 flashcards one day, then revisit them 3 days later, then 7 days later, and keep going. This allows the brain to forget a little bit and make the neuro connections stronger. I think this is good advice because it doesn't make studying overwhelming and makes it more time effective.

Studying Effectively with Flashcards

I chose this video because I like to use flashcards as a method of studying and wanted to see how I could improve. One good piece of advice he gave was to make your own flashcards. While taking a premade set from an online program can help save time, it's not as effective as making them yourself, or even better, writing them on paper. This is because it allows you to use the information in multiple ways, helping you remember it better. Another tip was to add pictures because people tend to remember visual aids better. One more effective way of using flashcards is to study both sides. The example from the video was to not only know that Be means Beryllium, but be able to put together that the chemical symbol for Beryllium is Be.

Test Anxiety

I chose this video because I get nervous before tests and wanted to learn how to help that. At the beginning of the video, he talks about common worries that student have before tests. The three fears he talks about are fear of the unknown, not being good enough, and what's at stake. To help with the fear of the unknown, you should get as much information about the test as possible and practice in situations that are as close to the real ones as possible. To help with the fear of inadequacy, you should prepare as much as possible to be confident in your abilities. To help with the fear of how important the test is, you should tell yourself that you are not defined by one test grade and it doesn't matter that much in the grand scheme of things. I think this is good advice to help decrease test anxiety.

This is an article from UNC Chapel Hill on how to study more effectively. I chose this article because it has a lot of good information about studying in quick, simple tips. I think this is a good way to organize the information because when people are looking for help, they don't always want to read a multi-page study on how to study more efficiently. This relates to my topic of studying and tests because it gives ways to improve study skills.
