• Introduction -
the Netflix film takes us on a whistlestop tour of our oceans, shining a light on everything from how important sharks and dolphins are to our ecosystems, to the hugely damaging effects that commercial fishing has on our planet (considering that up to 85 per cent of the oxygen we breathe comes from our seas).

It's a eye opener, shocker and definitely one of the best documentaries of 2021.
It exposes the corruption, pollution and emotion in the global fishing industry.

• Facts I learned -
One of the most shocking revelations of the documentary was the reality that the sustainable seafood label might not be a guarantee of sustainability.

The documentary points out that while reducing the number of sharks in the seas doesn't seem like a bad thing, it can actually destroy the marine ecosystem even further.

The documentary highlighted the lack of awareness and action against ocean pollution caused by fishing.
It also highlighted the ineffectiveness of the protocols in place to guarantee that seafood was indeed sustainable. The call to stop eating fish, for example, is a simple one, but one that's believed to be a step in the right direction.

Algae oil is a plant-based source of EPA and DHA, two omega-3 fats that are essential for our health. It provides the same benefits as fish oil but is a better choice if you don’t eat fish, follow a plant-based diet, or can’t tolerate the taste or aftereffects of fish oil.
Taking algae oil may reduce your risk of heart disease, fight inflammation, and support brain and eye health.

Reducing our fish consumption is the only way forward. And choosing not to harm any animals would be great for our survival as well.

•Message -
Seaspiracy's message was a call-to-action urging everyone to stop eating fish and switch to alternatives from the farming and food industry. The logic is that this action will eliminate the commercial fishing industry and its detrimental impact on the oceans.

With fewer dolphins and whales being killed in the process of fishing, the belief is that the biological processes involved in keeping the ocean alive and thriving will continue unhindered, leading to a world with safer seas and oceans.

Cats are amazing creatures. They’re inquisitive, intelligent and surprisingly social. As someone with 4 cats at home, each has a very different personality and learning more about their behaviour is fascinating. It’s certainly a surprise then to learn that cat research is about 15 years behind that of dog. However, current research has shown that both dogs and cats have pretty similar intelligence levels

There’s a good amount of information in this documentary, although the final 10 minutes do feel a bit rushed as the film rockets through everything from cat videos to the aforementioned Istanbul street cats. A bit of extra time to explore these areas would have certainly benefited the movie.

Despite this, Inside the Mind of a Cat is a fun, informative and educational look at our feline friends and well worth a watch.

All we need to know that Inside the Mind of a Cat is a documentary examining cat behavior. References and images include guns, artillery battleships, cat skeletal remains, felines leaping from heights and falling, cats biting fingers, cats capturing prey, dark magic stories, decimation of the European feline population, which may have contributed to the Black Plague, a distillery plant, and bottles and glasses of alcoholic drinks. Educational and positive messages include the benefits of relationship bonds and caring for others in need. Kids may be inspired to pursue careers in felinology, which is the study of cats.
Hardly saw it 🙂 and still don't like cats

The Cove is a 2009 American documentary film directed by Louie Psiyohos that analyzes and questions dolphin hunting practices in Japan. The plot of the film is centered around the controversial international dolphin capture trade, specifically in the Taiji region of Japan; dolphin activist and trainer extraordinaire Ric O Barry referred to it as “the little town with the really big secret.” Taiji is a specifically sensitive and important location in this film because it is the largest supplier of dolphins to marine parks and swim with dolphin programs around the world. The film provides us with the statistics that an estimated 23,000 dolphins and porpoises are killed in Japan each year. Furthermore, in the area which is referred to as “The Cove”, away from the public eye a great number of dolphins get chosen for callous slaughter and their meat, which leads us to further controversial territory dealing with mercury levels and a lying dolphin meat industry. The film is grounded in a highly- intense political and social atmosphere, with roots in Japan but reaching as far our entire global ocean system. In conclusion, I would like to say that the ' The Cove ' does what every great documentary with a cause should: It educates, entertains, and inspires audiences to take action.

Sherni , with its story and screenplay by Aastha Tiku, leads us into the magnificent jungle, keeping the sights and sounds as close to reality as possible. If the jungle and the prospect of safaris are exciting for outsiders, it’s a day-to-day workplace for the officers. We learn that she’s been pushing files for years before being posted as a field forest officer. Everyday patriarchy stares her on the field. After the tigress has claimed its first victim, a character comments that during a crisis, they are having to deal with a ‘lady forest officer’. Vidya doesn’t retaliate. She bides her time, just like the tigress making its way through the borderlands towards the jungle. Sherni is brilliant in its portrayal of the people Vidya has to work with. She finds an ally in Hassan Noorani (Vijay Raaz) who, like her, takes a scientific approach to the man Vs. animal struggle. She looks up to Nangia (Neeraj Kabi) who talks eloquently about the cost of development on the ecosystem. Junior officers, male and female, offer support. It’s in such company that she finds her will to plod on and stand her ground when the hunter Ranjan Rajhans (Sharat Saxena) and two opposing political groups begin to use the crisis for their own benefit.

Cowspiracy follows Kip Andersen, an avid environmentalist on his quest to find the most sustainable way of living, in an effort to combat one of the most pressing problems in our world today, climate change. Andersen reveals that just changing light bulbs and taking shorter showers is not enough to make a significant impact. Through various emails, phone calls and interviews, Andersen works to gather information from doctors, non-profit organizations, and farmers in an effort to reveal the catastrophic truth about animal agriculture.
When these non-profit organizations don’t answer emails and phone calls or even give an explanation as to what is going on behind closed doors Andersen begins to dig deeper. He shows up at organizations demanding answers. Eventually previous employees and current and former farmers come forward exposing the truth. Animal agriculture is the greatest contributor to climate change and this film does an excellent job at explaining how and why. Various doctors and scientists explain that going vegan is the most and only effective way to fight climate change as an individual.
Andersen did a great job of getting his point across about the environmental benefits of cutting animal based products out of your diet, but it was almost too extreme. Cowspiracy achieved its goal in the sense that it made me feel like I needed to take more action and do more research when it comes to non-profit organizations or any organization. The wide range of interviewees were really informative but I feel some of them could have conveyed their thoughts in a less aggressive way. Yes, climate change is important and that we have limited time till the effects are irreversible but the documentary discredited all small actions people take on a daily basis. For example many of the people interviewed discussed how meatless Mondays are pointless and not effective. Making it seem like little actions are useless and you have to commit 100% or else your actions are a waste. Overall, just lowering your consumption of meat might not be the most effective but it's a step in the right direction. The world is not able to all go plant-based tomorrow it takes time. Andersen left in these harsh interviews, and, as the audience, I felt targeted. One environmental researcher Dr. Richard Oppenlander discussed his thoughts behind meatless Mondays by explaining that, “You're creating a false sense of justification on those other 6 days of a week. Other words we really shouldn't be resting on our laurels about what you do right one- seventh of the time”. This makes it seem like there are no positive effects to Meatless Mondays and you either are all in or all out but our world doesn't work like that. Meatless Monday can easily make a huge difference and especially for those who eat meat everyday it is a step in the right direction. It could help them see how easy it can be to eat meatless then hopefully empowering them to continue to cut more meat out of their diet. Climate change documentaries should inform you, then make you feel a little bad and lastly empower you to want to make change, not make you feel hopeless and belittled
